They were supposed to have left for the US last week, but it was postponed - again - so hopefully it will be this Friday now. Hilary and I were talking to Iain at the end and he was saying how pissed off they all were with all the delays. He's really annoyed, because they've spent the best part of last year hanging around waiting on others, and they were supposed to be in the US in December, and now it's February and they've wasted three months. He really missed playing live last year. Earlier, Kev and I were chatting to him in the pub and we asked about the US release - he said it was definitely coming out over there - but he's not sure yet whether it will be on Interscope or Mercury, So you can all breathe a sigh of relief. We asked about touring, and he said it all depends on when the record company decide to release the album - they most probably won't do any UK festivals, but will possibly play some in Scandinavia. They have much more civilised festivals over there than we do in general (apart from the Pearl Jam tragedy last year), so it looks like I shall be packing my passport in readiness. I asked about "Everybody Knows That It's You" and told him that there were a few boots around of it and that people really like it. He doesn't know if it'll make the album, but it will certainly materialise somewhere - if only as a B side. I also told him about Del Amitri being given away free with Golden Grahams breakfast cereal, which he found very amusing, and kept coming back to. But as I said to him, it's all good publicity - his reply "yeah - with Golden Graham eaters!" I touched on the discontent some of us have felt about the lack of news and input from the band etc, but that is all about to change. Iain is very keen to get involved in the website, and Kevin has now finished writing a diary section for him, so when they are in the US he will keep us up to date with what's happening. Oh, and going back to Coldplay, seems Iain is a fan. Fans of David Cummings might like to know that he's finalising an 8-part sitcom with Paul Whitehouse, and as he's got two young daughters now, he's not missing the rock'n'roll lifestyle at all. Some of you might be interested in having a look at Mark's son Joe's website. He's in a band called Dumstruk, and they have a very impressive site at www.dumstruk.tv - they're big Nirvana/ Slipknot/Limp Bizkit fans - and Joe plays, funnily enough:-) the drums. He's a lovely looking lad, and the band play their instruments really well - though it's a bit strange hearing grunge music sung by someone who's voice hasn't broken yet. So by the end of February the band will have finished their bit and we will just have to sit back and wait on the whims of the record company. Let's just hope they get their act together quickly - they'll have to chose the tracks for single release, get the publicity done - photo shoots, videos etc, design the sleeve and work out the best time to release it. At the moment on the Rush mailing list I am on, we are weeding a CD of radio interviews regarding the making of Signals and Grace Under Pressure. To start a weed someone makes a copy of a CD (not a commercially available CD) and sends it to three people, those three then send it to three more and so on and so on. I would love to start a weed of some Del Amitri live bootlegs, possibly the Radio 2 concert last year and press it to CD? Also a lot of people don't have Swimming With Your Boots On. The officially released version is a b-side to Nothing Ever Happens. It's clean and pure, and one of the better b-sides in my humblest of opinions. Same with A Better Man which was also mentioned today. If you go to http://members.tripod.com/~UofDA/ you can see a listing of what songs are on what singles... up to DCHTS, anyway! Over the Easter weekend, Paul Gambaccini will be presenting a Radio 2 programme highlighting the top 100 Voices of the Century. I thought some of you might like to vote, don't know who you feel inclined to vote for and I'm not going to ask ;-)))) http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/events/voices.shtml This could be excellent advance publicity for the new album - so everyone get those fingers voting! Vote using however many email addresses you have, get your husband, wife, friends, sons and daughters, auntie, uncle and dog to vote. Sign up to Hotmail or Yahoo mail and vote using that address. Make up email addresses - vote everyday!! Let's get Justin there where he deserves to be!!! Just one thing - I had to press send several times before it would accept my vote - but keep trying! It's probably because the Otway list I'm on is clogging up the ether....
