The support band were Kings Of Conscious, two brothers from Norway. They did an acoustic set which I enjoyed, a bit 'Simon and Garfunkel'-ey in the harmonies, the lyrics full of 'can't talk to the girl I like' angst. They looked very young, and the tall thin brother reminded Libby and I of a cross between Hank Marvin and Brains from Thunderbirds. I liked the Eileen Rose songs where we had the full on rock'n'roll (including a feedback moment from Iain by the amps). Not so sure about the acoustic songs, except one at the beginning where she duetted with someone who's name I missed but Libby got quite excited..... Help me out with a name Libby? Considering I don't generally like female vocalists, I thought she was quite good - listening to the free tape on the way home she sounded different again, more earthy - and boy could you tell Iain was playing guitar! I'd agree with Jane that it was VERY weird to see Iain, Kris and Mark without Justin and Andy. (Well for me it was weird to be able to see Mark at all.). Kris and Mark were playing to each other all evening - Iain looked a bit worried and tense about his pedal steel guitar but seemed a lot more relaxed when it was over! And for those who may be interested in that kind of thing, the boys were all wearing dark suits, shirts, no ties. I took some photos, don't know if they'll turn out as the lighting was quite poor, but if anyone is interested in seeing them when they're developed, please let me know. I agree with Hilary - actually being able to see Mark's expressions, the fact that he occasionally "does an Ash" and also smiles a lot for a drummer. Eileen Rose was MUCH better than when we saw here before - as mentioned by Hilary, her acoustic performances are much weaker than when she is backed by a band and starts to enjoy herself. A really good night - and just brought out the longing for a Twisted-style tour with the pedal-steel and the mandolin! They do read the OV listings?. Last time I was at the borderline was in 1990, to see "The Rev Bingo Hand Job", now that was a gig and a half. Now I'll have to add another artist to my "wish list" and, of course, the Dels' new cd. The way you're writing about it makes me all the more excited, myself! Now...if we could only get the boys to come back to Dallas.... have a great day! debbie - --- Jane Armstrong wrote: > Just got in from the Eileen Rose gig at the > Borderline where we got to see > Iain, Kris and Mark perform. > The venue, and the stage, was tiny - and I was > practically sitting on Iain's > knee!
