Three examples of bands/record companies/management teams getting it RIGHT in regards to the internet... Train: Have put the lead single from their next album due in March or April, on their website for anyone to listen to. Patty Griffin: They posted a message to the mailing list saying: "If you'd like a copy of a 5 track promo disc (2 from the upcoming album in June; 1 previously unreleased live track) just send us your address." I did and received it within a week. Kevin Gilbert: The web site received permission to post bootleg tracks; his very first album (recorded in high school!) in its entirety; as well appearances on radio programs such as The Mark & Brian show. Then there are bands like the Push Stars & Josh Clayton-Felt who seek out fans to help them in promotion. Maybe this is just me talking out my other end, but could it be that the band don't think anyone would be interested enough in Del Amitri to warrant these kinds of promotions? The main character's name is Bruce Delamitri... and every time they said it out loud, I laughed in my seat. Anyone know if he's a fan? :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Alison Bellach: alibee@delamitri.com http://alibee.linex.com http://www.delamitri.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 20:49:03 -0000 From: "Hilary Gray" Subject: OV: Eileen Rose gig Monday 22nd Hi all, A few of us (Jane, Libby, Andrew, Jackie, Kevin and myself) are heading up to the Borderline tomorrow evening to catch Eileen Rose and her band. Is anyone else going? If you are, please come over and say hello, we don't bite. (Well, Andrew will if you ask him nicely.) I think we'll be fairly obvious - the mob armed with 20 questions. :o) I think Jane is planning to take her camera, so with any luck there may be some photos available. Anyone know if he's a fan? :) I'm pretty sure the band's introduction during the SOSP tour was a speech taken from Popcorn - 'this is the one, the night of nights, the nightiest night, the biggest night of Del Amitri's life' bit. If you've got access to it, it's at the start of the 'No Better Location' concert on the Hatful of Rain video. I've no idea if Ben Elton is a fan - I think he has a habit of giving his characters names that refer to famous places/people. Cheers, Hilary (who is getting all nostalgic having just checked out the video) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 21:49:14 -0000 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: Bob Harris Any Brits on this list of a certain age will remember Whisperin' Bob Harris. He has a fantastic radio show on Radio 2 on Saturday nights, and publishes the set list on his website http://www.bobharris.org/ I was just looking to see what he played on my birthday last week - and was pleased to see (but annoyed I'd missed) he played When You Were Young. Pretty co-incidental and also pretty relevant I thought! He regularly plays records by artists which members of this list mention as being favourites - Stevie Ray Vaughan, Coldplay, Sarah McLaughlin and Matchbox 20 are some he's played in the past couple of weeks. If any of you in the US are bored on a Saturday afternoon (it's late at night here!) you can listen to his show via a link on his site. You won't be disappointed. FYI - I took some awesome advice from Susan and wrote JPR. I asked if there are any promotions openings, askeed WHO I can send the C.V. to, and dropped a hint that I would like nothing better than promote something I believe in. Who knows if I'll get a response, but being in the "Get off your ass and do something about it" category, I thought it high time I do just that. Cross fingers AND legs for me please - I need all the help I can get. Kristy in Canada ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V3 #20 *********************************
