Mine: UK: Name Of the Game by ABBA US: You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone Gawd, I could've gone my entire life without knowing that, and I wouldn't have minded. Debbie Boone! Why couldn't it have been something like Cindy's-- "Sixteen tons, and whaddaya get...another day older and deeper in debt..." Or something like Libby's...I'll leave it up to her to post, but they're both pretty groovy. Not a hint of ABBA anywhere. BTW, to all the people I owe a mail or ten to, forgive me, but I had to grouse about my Number Ones publicly. I'll get back to you soon, I promise. So, from a youngling with a Woody Guthrie quote in his sig, I bid you farewell. -Andrew RESURGAM "What good work did you do, I'd like to ask you Give you my money right out of my hands. I know "Let the Sunshine in" but didn't realize it was by "The Fifth Dimension". I've never heard that band name before. And though I don't care for Name of the Game, overall, I really like ABBA. Isn't it nice to see the wide range of ages that the Dels appeal to, from Cindy who is glad she's on the list from 1952 on, to Leah in 1981. 1981?!?! That's the year I graduated from high school!... On another unrelated, non-Dels note, last night I saw Anna Fermin's Trigger Gospel. They were the opening band for the Mighty Blue Kings (both bands from Chicago). I would call them kind of country alternative, or alternative country; they remind me a bit of Foster and Lloyd. Very enjoyable. Those on the list who also like bands like Jayhawks should check them out. They have an EP from 1997 and a full-length from 1999. Ms. Fermin writes all the songs, and they even had one last night that bordered on being on Oasis-esque. It's always fun to support up-and-coming bands. http://www.triggergospel.com/ Welcome to the new folks who have been popping up recently. Not really watched the film properly yet, because there is an audio commentary by Harry Enfield, Dave and Ed Bye (the producer - married to Ruby Wax) on the DVD. It's basically the three of them talking all the way through the film about how it was written, and the "special effects". It's quite amusing - and David talks a lot about his brother Ted, who inspired parts of the film and who shared a flat with Harry Enfield for two years whilst at college. No mention of the Dels at all though. I thought there might be as David does talk quite a bit about his life. Maybe he's saving it all up for the next film he writes. On another tack altogether, just found this site which tells you what was No1 in the UK and US charts on the day you were born. Mine was "Singing The Blues" by Tommy Steele in the UK and, believe it or not, "Singing The Blues" by Guy Mitchell in the US. Coincidently, I bought an old 78 of the Guy Mitchell version at a jumble sale when I was about 9 (for no reason other than it cost about a penny). If I'd realised it's significance I might have looked after it. Don't know what happened to it - my brother probably used it as a frisbee. The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction was UK No 1 when Eddie was born - and the No 1 album when our youngest son was born 29 years later was by the Rolling Stones.... and now The Beatles are No 1 again. Just shows what they say about the oldies being the goldies.
