What you think of it now. Ah, so Chris throws out this question then heads out of town; so I'll throw in my impressions of the first Del Amitri cd I ever bought, "Twisted". I think the year was 1997 and I bought it for "mood music" while I drew a sketch of Justin Currie for the first time. Can't draw a musician unless you're listening to them, I always say. Food For Songs At the time it was too edgy for me... Not one of my fave songs now but I admire the message. Start With Me When the energetic guitar duo bit started, I remember scooting my chair back from the drawing table and thinking 'my word, these boys are GOOD'!! It has become one of my favorites and I'd sure love to watch Iain & Kris tackle the duo in person again (hint hint, boys). Here and Now I knew the Currie portrait was going to take awhile when this song came on... couldn't help but rare back in the chair and just listen. Honestly, I didn't like the falsetto singing the first time 'round but since then its become a bit charming. One Thing Left...~ Thought it was such a sad, despondent song then and still do. Poor guy. Tell Her This~ I think I said it a long time ago, but when I heard this song the first time I fell so hard for Del Amitri right on the spot, I could hear my heart hit bottom. It seemed to be the sweetest, most unusual, alarmingly open & most heart-felt admission of love I'd ever heard sung before... just the boy and his guitar, pouring out his heart. One listen to this song and I knew I was a goner. Still am, and its one of my all-time favorites. Roll To Me Ah, the ditty everyone remembers when I mention the band. Teresa warned me before I bought 'Twisted' that the whole album didn't sound like RTM ~ a bit of an understatement, hm?! I loved the song then and now, its the perfect Pop Tune and when I hear it I always break out into a RTM Dance even if I'm out in public... mortified my kids for awhile (ah the joys of motherhood) but now they do the Dance too. Might As Well Be You At first the song put me off, in how he seems so cold & selfish. For some odd reason this song always stirs up a strong reaction in me: I have the strangest urge to reason with the singer and tell him not be so careless with intimacy, that everything is ok and he'll find someone that's great someday! Weird. I like the twist in the story at the end, when you realize why he's acting the way he does. Fine guitar work on this song too. Never Too Late... Wonderful, wonderful song. Alone in the studio I can't resist singing harmonies, but my cat always runs away when I do so I suppose I'd best leave the harmonizing to dear Iain. There's a painting in this song for sure, the suitcase waiting by the door. Mmm, my fingers are beginning to itch for some pastel dust.... Driving Probably the best song on the whole album; loved it the first time and love it even more now. The bit at the end about "and unless the moon falls tonight/ unless continents collide/ nothing's gonna make me/ break from her side" is the most unique declaration of love that I've ever heard ~ absolutely brilliant! There are other songs on the album but I don't have much to say about them; these are the ones that made the biggest impressions on me. Now its off to start the turkey and dressing! I can't forsee any of them selling their award. They've worked too long and too hard to do something so obscenely drastic. If it WERE Iain, he could sell a guitar or two and make twice the money. An award you get once. A guitar, you can replace; or even buy back! I'm sure this award is from some Record Company exec no longer in the biz. And, are we sure that Reps and radio stations don't get them in the UK? Just because someone on eBay says so, doesn't make it so. I hope Libby if anyone Libby is crazy enough Libby to bid on the Libby thing, that they ask for a photo Libby as verification. And see who it belonged to. It could after all, be stolen... Liked the review but I must say that you are off the mark for 'Might as well be you'. He is not being cold and heartless for the sake of it. The point is that he is hiding his pain by a series of one night stands hoping to find love again. In fact if you think about it this is a recurring theme in Dels lyrics. Go back and have a listen to the lyrics in 'Just Like a Man' from the Change Everything album and you will see what I mean. 'Move away Jimmy blue' has a similar theme, but he has taken a detached view of the subject and written it in the third person, but who's to say it is not just as personal as the others.
