I'm telling you what, I got goose bumps while listening to Stone Cold Sober and just listening to Justin's crisp, clear, beautiful voice.....well, if they never put out anything else, we're damn lucky that we have what we do. My grandkids will be listening to these guys. liz ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 17:23:45 EST From: NIGELBLUES@aol.com Subject: OV: various Hiya All Returning from another exile and just caught up with 2 months of O.V. digests covering the life and times of the most active group on the planet. :>) I hate to be the merchant of gloom and doom but I can't see any way that Dels will be as successful, chart-wise, as they were before. Their time has quite simply been and gone but that doesn't mean they can't, and won't, have a future. But they still have a loyal fan base, they can still sell small hall venues and maybe have accepted themselves that is the level they will work at in the future unless they can pull something really special out of the bag. There's loads of groups who thrive at that level and Dels have an advantage in that they can work US too, not many Brit acts are currently but they never seem hungry or hard-working enough to rise above that. Still, I can't wait til their new album and see a gig of two of theirs again but that's not to say there isn't good music around currently. Which brings me to another thread, what's in your cd? JJ72 debut album Just excellent. Saw them play an awesome live set supporting Coldplay recently and got the album next day, glad I did. *BTW To US listers, Coldplay will get large exposure over their soon. One of their songs, Yellow, will be networked on NBC as a promo for all their Xmas promotions. Brave Captain This a new group fronted by Martin Carr (previously of the Boo Radleys). I was never into the Boo's and wouldn't normally be into Brave Captain either but a pal of mine owns the record label they're signed to and I checked a gig of their recently and loved it! They have released 2 albums in the past 6 months, I'd recommend them. Go to their website www.bravecaptain.com where you can download a track or tow of theirs to listen. EVERCLEAR - Songs from an American Movie Thanks to all O.V.ers for comments last time I posted. A great group, a great sound, just a shame they don't get the success and exposure I believe they deserve. DEVO - Recombo DNA I've mentioned before about being a huge DEVO fan, there's just something special and unique about them. Luckily, for us DEVO-tees, the spirit has lived on with DEVO making rare demo sessions, unreleased songs and other material available. Thank God they did! (Maybe something the Dels should do) GO WEST - Bangs and Crashes I'm not sure I should have confessed to this one!! But it's only in my deck (vinyl for this one after I wiped it down) because I saw them gig last week and it reminded me Peter Cox has a great voice and some songs they did weren't too bad at all. SMASHING PUMPKINS - Machina. I was lucky enough to see the Pumpkins a couple of weeks ago and in on their final gigs. Always loved their music and sounds. The rest is various singles and assotered stuff that flies in and out of the player. Dels haven't been on lately but I'm sure they will be soon. ta-ra4now ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V2 #163 **********************************
