Hi all Reading the recent postings I was suprised to see what I had been thinking as well,(Del fans psychic or is that psychotic!!). What is going to happen when the next single and album come out??? Do you as del fans want: A) Big Massive Del hit top 10 even top 3 or 1 B) usual fare first single top 20 , album top 5, then rest of singles top40 with the odd one bursting the top 30. C) NO CHART SUCCESS AT ALL!!! How are the dels going to approach the next single, lets face it we ain't the same league as U2 and even The Beautiful South's new single and album was a bit of a disappointment chart wise, but they still tour the arena's and larger venue's. Any way small rant all illogical and does not make sense. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Oct 2000 08:52:11 -0500 From: Michael Lee Newman Subject: OV: Nothing Ever Happens unless you listen? Delurking for a cause. Sure the four years has been a tough stretch without that forthcoming album from the Dels. Yet what most of us true fans have is a catalogue of Del music that goes back not to 1985, but farther, to 1983! If you don't have the old vinyl Dels material, search it out and get it. Anything you haven't got now will be new, right! New music till that newer Dels album comes along. Or have an OVer friend make a tape or burn a CD for you of any Dels tracks you may not have. We are not without enough Del music to keep all of us chatting about them all the time. The Difference Is that between a true Dels fan and a whiner, the true Dels fan will keep listening to what they've got and find new continued interest in it through repeated listening. So my suggestion to all the whiners: load up the CD changer, plop a dusty disc on the turntable or slide a cassette in the deck and listen to Del Amitri! Then hit the repeat button. Then do it again. Who here can tire of listening to Change Everything ten times in a row? Until I discovered the Dels, I had no idea what a repeat button was for! Keep yourselves busy with what you've got. I mean, the other day I got an hour of entertainment alone from just listening to and trying to sing along to The King Is Poor while it was playing in the car, and I was outside of it washing it while listening! And while you are sitting at the computer reading your OV messages with lack of new Del content, are you listening to their CDs or is that CD -ROM drive empty? When you are out jogging or running, are you listening? Why waste any time not listening. We have a wealth of great Dels music to listen to right now, even without that new album. Get busy and enjoy people! Well, I'm not quite as pissed off as some of you, but disappointed is a good word! The last time I saw Del Amitri, they played 3 songs (it was an early Christmas show for a local radio station), then they swifty got the hell out of there, no chance at all to say hello the the guys. That was nearly 5 years ago! So whoever saw them 10 months ago is the lucky one. How sad is that? Now, you wanna talk about a hard working musician? Try Mike Peters of The Alarm fame! He's in town tonight with a new lineup called The Alarm 2000. I'd love desparately to go, but I'll be damned if all my friends are too old and tired to go with me! ARGH!! But back to Mike, he's also got a band called Coloursound, with Billy Duffy from The Cult and Craig Adams from The Mission UK & The Cure & whoever else he can play with, if I'm not mistaken. Now if these guys, who are around the same age as our boys, maybe older, can still get out there and tour and make records, with 2 (or more) bands, no less, what excuse are "Dela who?" using? Tsk, tsk. Still looking forward to the new tunes, though, debbie "If those who only see the bad things don't even try to lift their feet out of the muck & mire, they'll never make it to the fields of flowers, dancing or not." - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Cc: Sent: Saturday, October 28, 2000 6:14 PM Subject: Re: OV: Dela who? > > > Hi everyone, > > I have sweet Alison sitting on my very couch and I just read this note to her. In fact, I've also spoken about this to Darren. Mostly, I'm pissed off. The only time that Quinner writes me is when his friends are in SF, so he can find out what cool stuff to take them to. And Iain? He is too busy with wifey to care about little ol' me. And I have pretty much written off Mercury AND JPR, because as far as I can tell, they think that the US site doesn't need ANY info and that everything will be all dandy if they tell me jack shit. It's a pisser, I say. I flew all the way to LA to see a great NOT Del Amitri band tonight -- one that has put out TWO (count 'em) albums in the time that Del Amitri has been taking a break -- and one of them is a DOUBLE ALBUM! (That's the Beautiful South.) > > Anyway, you'd think that Del Amitri and JPR would be dying for all the free press they get from us. I have never asked for ANYTHING from the band for the 6 years of maintaining their site. I've never sold anything or tried to make money off of their name in any way. JPR could take a freakin' 10 second break once a month to drop me an email and yet... nothing. I can only assume that Kevin is getting as little info as I (but he's lucky to at least live in the same country as them...) > > They should take a lesson from Lloyd Cole. The guy has personally spoken with both Taire and me about stuff he'd like for his site -- he takes an active interest in his fans and wants to do kick-ass stuff for them HIMSELF. Instead of ignoring his fans, he has contacted them and offered them the opportunity to promote his material -- to become personally involved in helping with his success. (BTW, he has a new album coming out this month, so far only available in France! Buy now!) > > It's been 4 freakin' years since they've put an album out. I don't know how the hell we keep ourselves entertained on this mailing list, but we seem to be doing a good job, by siting the last time we heard "Cry To Be Found" as musak in WalMart and naming our favorite Scottish beverage. But geez, I can't make the band do anything, just like I can't make JPR stoop low enough to give me info and like I can't make Iain write me. I don't know what the hell is going on with those guys, but I'm starting (starting?) to get pissy. > > Dude, even *I* released a recording since their last album, and I don't even have a studio or musical talent! > :) > > Okay, I'm done. I'll remember that thing about listening to 'The King Is Poor' the next time I wash Little Snow White (blackmailed my son into doing it this afternoon, though; he's the only one here tall enough to wash the top of a van while standing flat footed. Want to borrow him, Wiz? ) Michael, don't think I could quit listening if I wanted to. Sure Skillet & EC & SRV may be on the cd player turntable, but there's always a Dels disc there too, usually 'Hatful' because it has a good variety on it. A live concert cd always boosts my mood (especially when certain fellows sing such exquisite harmonies with the band, M!) And my beloved DA b-side tapes are always in the van for road trips. I see a band on tv and somebody starts playing a Les Paul and I get all misty-eyed. And heaven help us if somebody strums a Taylor, that gets my bottom lip quivering. My daughter listens to country music, and even the sound of a slide guitar or pedal steel conjures up visions of... well, take a guess. You know, I think I listen to other musicians sometimes just to take my mind off DA & how much I wish I could hear some new stuff or see them play live again. This is getting maudlin. I hope that you are not calling those of us (like myself) who are complaining about a lack of info (but still listening to the old stuff) whiners. I take exception to that. I am one of the web masters, and I expect (rightfully) to be kept informed of what's been going on, so I can pass it on to this list -- a list of die-hards and newbies who just want to be kept informed. I don't think that saying "Wow, there's still lots of old stuff!!!" solves the problem of seeing NOTHING from the band. My desire to see them do something != my not liking their old stuff. I don't think that anyone here is saying that there isn't a wealth of Del material out there. But, the truth is, this band needs some success, and that isn't going to happen because I put "Change Everything" on repeat. Dels always! Any of you vaguely interested in a bit o' country, see if you can find a couple of Kasey Chambers singles, she's a talented as all hell country-gal from down under way and her debut album is brilliant. I think she's touring Europe and the US so some of you'll have a chance to see her - but you'd better give her back! > You know, I think I listen to other musicians sometimes just to take my > mind off DA & how much I wish I could hear some new stuff or see them > play live again.
