Hi all, If any of the influential people with contacts to the band are listening (Alison and Kevin?) then perhaps you could remind the band of the following: 1) There is virtually no discussion activity on either official site 2) There is virtually no news on either site 3) There is very little Dels related activity on the best discussion group (OV) 4) There are the lowest ever number of items for sale on Ebay 5) There are the lowest ever prices for Dels related material 6) It is 10 months since the last concert 7) The last album (other than the greatest hits album) was in 1997, we are rapidly approaching 2001, 4 years!! 8) Most OVers don't have a Dels record in their current playlist If the Dels are to survive they better start acting NOW!!! Why this email? Well Lynne and I went to see James last night at Poole Arts Centre and we had a great time. Other than seeing them at TFI Friday when we first met the UK Del fans (Don't Come Home Too Soon) it was out first James concert. Until I searched the internet afterwards I hadn't realised how similar they were to the Dels from a historic point of view, 1st album in 1985, 1st big album in 1990, greatest hits albums in 1998. Even the music is similar, melodic guitar pop music, as I would call it. The difference ends there though, they followed the best of album with a very good album and tour early this year and in this concert, part of a short tour, they were very brave to try out many new songs, obviously for a forthcoming album. As Darren recently said, the natives are restless. Restless in an understatement, yours very pissed off. Couldn't agree more Mike, can't help feeling that the Dels are being idle sods at the moment and could do with a kick up the backside. Thank god AC/DC are touring at the moment, at least they know how to keep there fans happy... TTFN from (as my daddy says) a Highly Pissed Off Susan ------------------------------ Date: 28 Oct 2000 17:14:54 -0700 From: taire@taire.com Subject: Re: OV: Dela who? Hi everyone, I have sweet Alison sitting on my very couch and I just read this note to her. Here is her response in her very own words....Alison? This is hilarious, considering the fact that Taire and I talked about this today in the car on the way to see Lori. In fact, I've also spoken about this to Darren. Mostly, I'm pissed off. The only time that Quinner writes me is when his friends are in SF, so he can find out what cool stuff to take them to. And Iain? He is too busy with wifey to care about little ol' me. And I have pretty much written off Mercury AND JPR, because as far as I can tell, they think that the US site doesn't need ANY info and that everything will be all dandy if they tell me jack shit. It's a pisser, I say. I flew all the way to LA to see a great NOT Del Amitri band tonight -- one that has put out TWO (count 'em) albums in the time that Del Amitri has been taking a break -- and one of them is a DOUBLE ALBUM! (That's the Beautiful South.) Anyway, you'd think that Del Amitri and JPR would be dying for all the free press they get from us. I have never asked for ANYTHING from the band for the 6 years of maintaining their site. I've never sold anything or tried to make money off of their name in any way. JPR could take a freakin' 10 second break once a month to drop me an email and yet... nothing. I can only assume that Kevin is getting as little info as I (but he's lucky to at least live in the same country as them...) They should take a lesson from Lloyd Cole. The guy has personally spoken with both Taire and me about stuff he'd like for his site -- he takes an active interest in his fans and wants to do kick-ass stuff for them HIMSELF. Instead of ignoring his fans, he has contacted them and offered them the opportunity to promote his material -- to become personally involved in helping with his success. (BTW, he has a new album coming out this month, so far only available in France! Buy now!) It's been 4 freakin' years since they've put an album out. I don't know how the hell we keep ourselves entertained on this mailing list, but we seem to be doing a good job, by siting the last time we heard "Cry To Be Found" as musak in WalMart and naming our favorite Scottish beverage. But geez, I can't make the band do anything, just like I can't make JPR stoop low enough to give me info and like I can't make Iain write me. I don't know what the hell is going on with those guys, but I'm starting (starting?) to get pissy. Dude, even *I* released a recording since their last album, and I don't even have a studio or musical talent! :) Okay, I'm done. Back to Taire. A :) I dictated so I am done too! I have to go get ready for a concert!!! T ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V2 #144 **********************************
