The albums I have with me today are: Robbie Williams--Sing When You're Winning (not to worry, Jane (and others, as I read on), I'm 37 and it's my guilty pleasure, too--Rock DJ didn't take long to grow on me while I was in England this summer) Coldplay--Parachutes (I'm SO glad I grabbed this one at Heathrow on my way home!) Sinead O'Connor--The Lion and the Cobra Moody Blues--Keys of the Kingdom Journey--Evolution Georg Friedrich Handel--Concerti Grossi op. 6 Nr. 5-7 The Harp Consort--Spanish Dances Juno Beach--Sampler Vol. 1 Juno Beach is a place where folks can listen to really unknown stuff. It's an Internet-only station from here in Minneapolis, and you can buy most if not all of what you hear through their site. Do check it out. http://www.junobeach.com/ I dutifully downloaded an MP3 of Wallflowers "Hand Me Down" from Napster (I'm planning on buying the album, I just haven't yet, don't lecture), to see if Dale G. was right. I wouldn't go so far as to say it sounds JUST like Justin, but Jakob definitely tends to have similar vocal inflections. I like "Cry to be Found" a whole lot and did from the first time I heard it. I agree with others that it's fun to hear a band do something completely different from their "usual" sound. Which is why I'm a staunch supporter of the first album, though its difference more a matter of evolution than surprise. Darren, I just realized that I forgot to send you money for the CD of original music by O.V.ers in support of the tribute album. I try to do that soon, if it's still available. I've tried finding their other CDs (I only got the one, "Black Stone Tramp"), but I've been unsucessful so far. My turn to de-lurk and put in my 2 cents worth. I travel for business, and am currently located in Kristy's beautiful country, in Windsor, Ontario (Windsor's not so hot, but Ontario is beautiful). I carry a small group of CD's with me for my personal player and for the player in the rental car. All my CD's are on my laptop's hard drive, and it's a pretty eclectic bunch. Anyway, the 6 or 7 in my possession at this time are: Dels - Twisted Dels - Change Everything Billy Joel - Turnstiles Darden Smith - Little Victories Steve Forbert - Mission of the Crossroad Palms Bruce Springsteen - Greatest Hits (seems we all have one greatest hits, eh?) Great Big Sea - Play As for current music, I too agree that the American radio business sucks, with every artist captured in a little tiny box. If they don't fit, they don't get played. There are some good young (and not all that young) groups that play a great, straight ahead, rock and roll style, not that different from the Dels. I do believe that what distinguishes the Dels is creative phrasing and intelligent lyrics. Matchbox 20 has a great sound, as do Eve 6, Sister Hazel and many other groups, and just for my daughter, I'll mention her favorite band from Blue Island Illinois, MEST. They have a great sound and are just breaking through in the biz. Oh well, back to lurking. If anyone comes across a great station with some independent DJ's and an eclectic mix of music, please tell me. I'm dying to stop listening to sports talk, but I can't stand most music radio these days. Later, Richard "The world could be perfect, even if we are not, If everything is forgiven, even if not forgot" Darden Smith - Loving Arms ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 20:47:34 +0100 From: "Chris Fleming" Subject: OV: Re: CDs your listening to Well it's time for my current listening. Fastball-You're an ocean. Moby-Play Dels-Waking Hours. Dillard and Clark-She Darked the Sun Neil Young-Harvest. Ben Harper-Jesus on the Main line. A mixture of albums and singles, influenced by a current band project i am involved in.
