What does that have to do with it? p.s. I recently watched a special on either VH-1 or MTV (I don't have cable so I don't know the difference....could've been E!) re Kurt Cobains's apparent suicide. There are two authors who think it was a homocide. What do you think? What does anyone else think? Dave Grohl involved? The band WAS breaking up?! My brother and I had a discussion tonight about bands "selling out" and Pearl Jam was included because we both happened to LOVE Nirvana and I really liked Pearl Jam before this "Last Kiss" song thing. Was "10" not great? The Evenflow video was awesome and "Jeremy" speaks for itself. What's up with that? I mean, Vedder was a gas station attendant before "10" went big. My brother's philosophy is that Cobain faked his death (I think because of Morrison, Joplin, and Hendrix all dying at the age of 27 as Cobain did) and that if Vedder had done the same, that he would be as revered as Kurt. What do you guys think? Personally, I was quite sad by my reading of the TV Guide wherein they had a photo of Kurt (after his nice haircut) on the MTV Video Music awards, because of the stuff they have to choose from now. Can you imagine Nirvana sharing a stage with Britney? Also, TV Guide said that Christina Aguilera (sp) was to this generation what Celine Dion was to hers and what Streisand was to hers. Excuse me, but WHO my age (30) believes that Celine Dion was ANYTHING to our generation? Granted, Streisand can be called an icon....but Celine???? Help!? I don't mean to be judgmental and certainly not preachy or anything along that line...people have different tastes....but who would ever group the Dels into a group with these bands we have today? I mean, where do we fit? Good taste? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Aug 2000 10:56:08 +0100 From: "Jane Armstrong" Subject: OV: re:moby > Moby is a devout Christian, and Justin is much better looking. > > Where did you hear this? The Tribute Album is still on. I need a little help though, and this is what I'm proposing... In order to give this album the best sound quality possible, it is necessary to have it Mastered. This costs money. Roughly $250. So, to raise that money, I've put together a disc of original music from some of the folks on the Tribute album. This original music disc will be $10, with all proceeds going to the cost of mastering the Tribute album. If there are any proceeds left over after THAT, the excess will be applied to the cost of Tribute album. Now, understand, the cost of this Original Music disc is coming out of my pocket. If you'd like to help by buying one of the Opposite View Original Music discs, please email me privately. You CAN donate a little extra cash if you wish, it will be humbly accepted and gratefully acknowledged. She was a hit in Quebec as a kid, and we saw alot of her early french tunes in English speaking Canada on MuchMusic - our MTV. Okay, I'm not a fan in the FAN sense of the word, but she does have a certain . . . well, kick ass kinda side to her. STOP LAUGHING!! About 10 years ago, she did a french language album (Danse de matette?? - my french is rusty), and she absolutely rocked OUT! It was akin to Alanis breaking free of her teen image (I STILL have and love her early stuff). So in a really long winded answer - yes, C.D. does have a dot on my pop culture map. Again - it must be a Canadian thing. As for Cobain, I have mixed opinions about his death. I mean, was Monroe an O.D., or was she murdered? Personally, I believe the latter, but there will never be definative proof. Yes, I think Eddie Vedder is awesome (such a babe - when he's clean, that is) and I do think that Vedder would have been just as huge dead as Cobain. That said, there was a rumour floating around at the time Kurt died that some local (Seattle) journalists were taking bets as to who would go first. I wonder who won. As for FLUFF, Britney and her counterparts are just icky to me. If Cobain HAD lived, he'd have died the minute he had to jump onstage with Britney and her pre-recorded voice tracks. As for the Beatles, I remember growing up listening to Sgt. Pepper. THe night John Lennon died, my Mom wept uncontrollably. She saw them here in Vancouver at an old stadium that doesn't exist anymore, and it was one of those shows where the stands were full and the stage was at the far end of the field. Ugh! Did they HAVE binoculars then?? (Kidding!) I think that my musical tastes were undoubtebly shaped by growing up singing with Kermit and Paul. Bathe your kids in whatever music you love - it'll stay with them FOREVER. Regarding Crowded House, they lost me after "Chocolate Cake". Neil's brother joined the band and the dynamic changed a lot from my perspective. It was around that time that I discovered the Tragically Hip, so it was a fair trade off. "World Where You Live" is still one of my all time favourite songs. That whole first CD is great in the car! Hope I wan't tooooo long winded! Cheers! : ) Kristy in Canada ------------------------------ End of oppositeview-digest V2 #97 *********************************
