My two children and I just arrived after an hour and a half drive to my parents where I can use their computer. We were listening to a radio broadcast on tape from Baltimore, MD from several years back. Lots of Aztec Camera, Roxy Music, Joe Jackson, and more treats for Mom! I'm currently housing an N Sync and BSB's fan in my 9 year old daughter. On the tape, was "Octopus' Garden" by the Beatles. This insued a conversation about The Beatles wherein I told my daughter and son (5) that The Beatles were HUGE, bigger than The Backstreet Boys, bigger than Britney. They were amazed. My son a few months ago had heard "Norwegian Wood" for the first time and thought it was "Pineapple Head" (his favorite Crowded House song that he thinks was written just for him). Do any of you have any opinions on today's music and The Beatles influence...not only on the boys' bands, etc. But on CH, the Dels, and many of our other favorite bands and music. I'd like some other ideas on how to expose the kids to more and more great music and avenues through which they can learn more about the history of rock and pop (without only being tainted by my love for the '80's and CH, REM, etc.) NOT THAT IT'S BAD! But....just for conversation's sake....humor me! Also, have any of you Crowdies noticed that the beginning chords of the Chili Peppers "Californication" sounds hauntingly like the beginning of Finn Bros. "Only Talking Sense?" There are more that use those chords but I can't think of them....Help?
