Way off topic!! > I remember catching my whole family for weeks with my answer machine > message. It simply said... > > "hello?" (pause for 5 seconds while they start chatting to 'me') > "sorry I cant come to the phone......" My old boss did something similar. This messge was: "Hello (pause for a few seconds) Hello, hello, I can't hear you...... (another pause) I can't hear you because I'm not here......" I was house sitting for him and woken up at 3am one day by some Amercian friends of his calling - it was hilarious to hear them trying to say "Can you hear me now, is that better? " and then slamming the phone down in disgust. At least it would have been had it not been 3am. But this is getitng WAY off topic! Del content - "telephone exchanges click" - they no longer click here now since we've all gone digital. They found it in the next street, where I'd parked it the night before ahead of going out. - - I went to the Welsh National Eisteddfod (the biggest cultural event in Europe, not that I was there for that) and treated the assembled bards, poets, choirs and harpists to an appalling version of Mary's Prayer by Danny Wilson but I was chuffed to be backed by a group. My rock singing debut! - - I've been spotted busking in the city centre & last Saturday, innocent passers-by were treated to a rendition of John Denver's(?) Take Me Home Country Roads (beats Sloop John B anyday) - - At one football match during my missing 48 hours in Dublin, I staged a one man pitch invasion at the end only to hear the following announcement over the tannoy, "I'm going to count to ten and if you're not off the pitch by the time I've finished, you'll be banned from this ground for life ... one, two, three etc" Only in Ireland can you get announcements like that over the public address system. - - I confused my 62 year old dad for my 9 year old daughter when he attempted to wake me. He failed to do that. And these are just the ones I'll admit to...I've calmed down a lot. Maybe the low points was about 15 years ago when I got up after one massive all day Xmas Eve Party to wish everybody a Merry Xmas and found out it was the afternoon on Boxing Day!! More confessions than a Jerry Springer show. Anyway, I've always regarded Dels as a good time drinking band, it's often very obvious in their live performances and apparent in their lyrics too. I just follow the example of my icons! This appears to be turning into a listing of "songs that contain phrases about telephones", and which case, I've got another one: Chris DeBurgh's "Man On The Line" (Title track from his 1984 album): Excerpt: There's a man on the line, he is wasting my time, He calls me everyday, he's got nothing to say, And at the dead of night when I turn out the light, The telephone rings, it's him again; A bit harsh, perhaps... You can check the lyrics out here (http://www.gudella.de/cdb/album08.html#song08) And sorry, "telephone exchanges" is the closest Del variety I can think of, too... - ----- Original Message ----- From: Leah Schenkenberg To: Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2000 8:26 PM Subject: OV: We're not home, so leave a message.... > I'm trying to find a good song to put on my answering machine at school. What we need is one which starts with the verse - "Look around My World Pretty Baby....". Eddie's found a web site with a load of ring tones on - including Layla and the Monty Python theme but no Dels :-) Jane (My we're dredging the barrel aren't we! The Dels had better get on and get that album finished! Then at least we may get the odd track leaked before the record company get their act together! Or "Hangin On The Telephone" or "Call Me" by Blondie (although I don't think your Dad would appreicate the associated implications of *that* one)? :) C ===== - - Just give me the coffee and nobody gets hurt. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
