Hey Guys, Ok, I know i havn't posted for a while, but like everyone is suggesting, the lack of del action is a major reason that the conversation threads have gone WAY off topic, I'm not complaining, but nothing much has taken my fancy recently to join in on....just sitting on my hands waiting for album/single/tour news like most of the list..... I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones, having seen the Dels in my hometown of Edinburgh at new year, which is now a remarkable 6 and a bit months ago, so I've had a "del-fix" within the last year, which is more than can be said for a lot of people on this list.... :( One of the reasons we all sit here twiddling our thumbs or talking about other stuff is that there is nothing really else to do without any new news.......sigh! As for Crowded House, fantastic band, Neil Finn is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of his generation (as is oor Justin!). BTW does anyone know if Lloyd Cole got himself a record deal??? I saw him live in February and he has a band and a lot of material, but no recored label, and some of the stuff he played was fantastic!!! All the best to everyone!!! Iain (no relation to Hilary whatsoever : )) Gray. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 11:22:38 CDT From: "Leah Schenkenberg" Subject: OV: I need a history lesson I was reading the bio on kevin's page and it said that DA was on the cover of Melody Maker 2 months before the album came out so there was all this hype blah blah blah etc etc etc. I take it that Melody Maker is a cool magazine over there. But what I don't get is why they were there in first place? Was it a "here's a single that's good and the album doesn't come out until 2 months from now, but they're so cool so we'll put them on the cover thing" (if so, what signle?) or was it just "Here's a cool band you might want to check out in 2 months. WE don't know who they are or what they sound like either". Also...any online archives of this? a scan of the cover or the article I could look at? I've also have finally been realizing the desperation that the longer listening fans have been going through. I didn't become a DA fan until a few months after Hatful had come out…I'm not sure how long, but it was out long enough to be in the music clubs. BMG had it as it's "daily website feature" and I got it on a whim, probably as my second free record or something. Since then, there has been absolutely nothing going on (other than me being really lucky to have them stop in my town for one of their 2 US dates last summer since it's usually fly over land), but I've had all this neat stuff to learn. I had 4 albums to buy and learn and all the bsides to familiarize with, so I've had something to keep myself less stir crazy then the rest of you. When I joined OV, all I had was Twisted and Hatful. I picked up CE myself, and then you wonderful people got my the first album (Laura), the bsides (Lori), singles (Dean and Debs, who put extra neat things in there because they knew I was a new listener), and hooked me up with second hand copies of SOSP and Waking Hours when I was a poor college student who couldn't find them used and couldn't afford them new (Darren, who has since helped me acquire more awesome stuff). So thank goodness we have a new album soon, because so far I've had all this great "new to me" DA stuff to play with, and I'm gonna have to wean myself off that luxury. After this next album when there isn't new stuff to play with and I'm gonna have to wait 3 years like the rest of you, I'm finally gonna understand why all of you are going insane (but in the best way possible). I saw Lloyd earlier this month, and he said the new album will be out soon on a foreign label (French, I think, but don't hold me to that as I am a certified member of Sherry's CRAFT Club ). He is hoping that will lead to a major label sale, but in the meantime, at least we will be able to get it as an import or whatever. Very much looking forward to that! To sort of keep this on topic, I recently got a copy of an old Melody Maker cover (thanks, Karen!), and the headline reads "Del Amitri: Is this the hottest new twang of '85? Morrissey and Lloyd Cole already think so." The picture of the boys is adorable! ~Lori, who is temporarily leaving the list after this weekend . . . so don't have too much fun without me in the month I'm gone! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lauren Royal ~ http://www.laurenroyal.com AMETHYST ~ Signet Books ~ in stores NOW! Yes, they were on the front cover of Melody Maker in the 02/02/85 issue. I haven't got this one as it seems to be in short supply but I have recently purchased a lot of similar early UK magazines. I have scanned the pictures and OCR'd the words and put them on my Dels web page under 'Articles' so please have a look. The early articles and pictures are of particular interest (even if you don't like the first album) especially when Justin wanted to call the 1st album "The Horrors of Sexual Intercourse" !! (Sounds, June 1st 1985). Maybe it might have sold better? Was there ever a Change Everything songbook? Does anyone have it, that would be willing to photocopy the one song for a guy in Australia? Please email me off list...
