I'm asking that if | you haven't posted before; or post only very occasionally, to please post | during this week. As I dub July 17 - 24 "Lurker Week". As a lurker, I thought I would take Darren up on his offer. I just recently obtained the "Swimming With Your Boots On" boot and I've got to say that I'm impressed. I'd heard that the sound quality wasn't all that great, but I was pleasantly surprised. I've got some Gabriel-era Genesis boots where the sound quality is definitely questionable, but SWYBO sounds really clean, IMHO, and I'm really enjoying it. If anybody doesn't have this, I'd be happy to make a copy for them, as this is a must for any Dels fan. I first saw the Dels when they opened for Melissa Etheridge back in 1990 here in Columbus, Ohio. At that time, the only song I knew of theirs was "Kiss This Thing Goodbye" as it was getting some airplay back then. But they absolutely blew me away. They really carry a lot of energy when they perform, so my lack of knowledge of their song catalogue really didn't lessen my enjoyment of their show. The only other band that's been able to do that for me was the Talking Heads. I agree with other posters recently about the lack of Dels news. I'm happy to hear that they've finally began recording their next album. Hope to see them tour soon! I seldom post, but usually enjoy the rantings, ravings, (The Hansons?) and other conversation on this list. I know we can all hardly wait for some real news, and the light conversation here is a way to pass the time with our friends. My delete key works, and I use it whenever I feel I need to. As far as I'm concerned, nothing needs to change. I know this is where I will get my Dels info first, and that alone would keep me here. Keep up the good work, Darren! Come back from a weekend in the garden and world war three has broken out! Everyone would soon unsubscribe if this list had no postings for months on end whilst we are waiting for new material/tours - I think its a great way of getting to know people and that can have a great bonus when, as most do sometime or later, meet up at tours. e.g. the US meetings - great success - everyone friends and ice broken already! and UK meetings - now a regular occurrences complete with frying dead stuff on an open fire (apart from vegetarians frying dead plants). IMHO - OV is what we need to keep DelFans working together, and an opportunity to make your address book bulge ready for the god-has-it-been-that-long? tour And just to confirm, Darren, The mailing list is not a discussion list - why start another when this one does it all :-) Its hard facts direct from the band themselves, or management to give any (and all) information on band activities, tour and album info and any other Band related information - apart from when Justin farts! (I had an email asking me to report this - hmmmm some people). Anyway - if you want to subscribe to the news list, visit the link below - and in the meantime, keep up those posts - no matter what the subject! I'm on the regular mailing list AND the News-Only mailing list for an artist. That artist is currently on a US tour; with a new album coming out in September. Guess what? On the mailing list, they're taking polls on whether to throw someone off the list; talking about the OTHER band on the tour; and reviewing shows with "It was killer". I've received about 5 emails in 3 months from the "News-Only" list. That was to announce the tour, and to announce additional dates. Mailing lists are like print media... you've got to sort through a bunch of crap to find the information that has meaning for you. I believe Kevin has a News Only mailing list. It is not a discussion list (right Kevin?), you get news when Kevin sends it to you. That's all. No rumour, just cold hard facts. It sounds like there are some here on OV that, that's what they want. I urge you to join that list and unsubscribe from this one. I sent instructions for deleting yourself from OV yesterday. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Kevin - tell the band, "the natives are getting restless." :) Peace, Darren ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 11:50:45 -0400 From: "Susan & C. Hey, at > least we are original. But my kids know if its Del Amitri, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, the Allman Brothers, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Crowded House, Devo, Metallica, Beastie Boys, Chili Peppers, Skillet, Metallica, OR the Beatles during the first 5 notes of a song. So there. Thanks for reading my mind!!!!! I'm on a couple of different lists and this one is the biggest load of (CENSORED) I've ever had the mispleasure of being on! It is soooo cliquey and is dominated by the same few people who think several hundred others are interested in their BBq's, listening habits, viewing habits etc. Why these half-wits think anyone other than the unfortunate few within their small circle are remotely (CENSORED AGAIN) interested in their inane ramblings is beyond me. Lurkers unite and get this crap off the list. Alison, as your the official site can't you PLEASE set up a mailing list that deals ONLY with Del Amitri? Petey >> Petey, Oh dear, just 2/10 sorry. Very poor style and technique used here. If you want to rollock, you save your best 'til last in the same way that you slam a telephone down but look at your parting comment and weep. You're just too nice to rant, leave it to the prfoessionals. Your gratuitious swearing shows a lack of knowlege and ability to do it in style too. But where you really let yourself down in your wrath of keyboard fury is the wimpy and almost apologetic final words. How can you dismiss everyone, call them every name known in your four letter vocablary (I assume you've extended name to Petey so that you show that you know some words with more than 4 letters?) & then ask a nice question with an excellence in good manners and prefaced with the word PLEASE? Was there something in the air over the pond yesterday??? Nigel p.s. Liz is now my mate, we're mailing off list and she's calmed down. She's fine and says she'll be back when there is news. 10/10 Liz!! :>) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 21:19:26 -0500 From: "Jen Woyan" Subject: OV: OT - Contest to visit Chi-town from Music365..... Just ask any of the ersatz-termed "cliquey" individuals on this list who are prone to visiting exotic locales in their search for all things Del... Anyway, if any of you are interested, check out the contest on Music365 (a really cool music news site as well) - Chicago is always brilliant and the Allegro Hotel is a very cool, hip, trendy hotel in the midst of the Loop that can be compared to the Sanderson in London and the Mercer in NYC...(and High Fidelity is a good movie and a great book...) Americana at y'all. Howdy. Grits. :) Name: ter Comments: We used to listen to Del Amitri's music when we went on SAR (search and rescue) missions and trainings. Everyone on the team liked the music - the lyrics (the stories). When they came to the US some years ago, our whole team went to see them. It may well be the only time we'll ever see the band play live. I'll always remember the concert and listening to the songs together on those long trips. Great songs.
