Bad news I'm afraid... By Andrew Hutchinson A CONCERT hall which for years proved to a favourite gig stop off venue for Del Amitri on their UK tour calendar has closed down. The Town & Country Club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, shut down lat last month after the owners sold out to a major nightclub operator. The 1,800-capacity venue will be forever remembered in Del Amitri folklore after it was used to record the live b-sides to the Some Other Sucker’s Parade single. Nine tracks were used from the band’s gig at the venue back on July 13, 1997, for the single release. The live songs are also featured on the rare Medicine 3CD set which was pulled shortly before release by the record company following the death of Diana, Princess Of Wales. The last time the group played the Town & Country Club was on their last UK tour back in October of 1998 when fans were treated to a unique show. Yorkshire’s own Ian Davis, who impersonated Justin Currie on ITV’s Stars In Their Eyes, came on stage to sing his own version of Roll To Me. The Town & Country Club proved a mecca for live music fans since it was opened back in 1992. Giants of rock and pop to have graced the stage over the years include INXS, Robbie Williams, Blur, Mark Knopfler, and David Bowie. Best Wishes, Andrew Hutchinson PS: I will be filing a copy to I&P II.
