I'll start. Although it's not my favorite song overall, lately I've been just enamored with the following from "I Won't Take the Blame": The steps of this old church are peppered with confetti hearts Like a million little love affairs waiting to fall apart. A fine example of the beauty and cynicism we know and love from Justin. The line that always gets me is: "why don't you get it over with and walk out on my life?" Doesn't sound like much when you isolate it from the rest of the song but the whole thing together is very moving. He's just bleeding all over this song. I think it has the kind of emotional impact that only the best singers/songwriters can deliver without going way, way over the top. Good choice Kelly. :) cheers, karen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 17:18:29 -0400 (EDT) From: Leah Schenkenberg Subject: OV: isolated lines This is probably my favorite area of song writing, so I could really go on forever, but I'm gonna try and restrain myself to just a few. Actually, if I think about it, I can narrow my favorite isolated "Line O' Currie Truth" to these two: Nobody's perfect, and that's something that I'm sure she'll know ::and:: Nobody's helpless, although I've never felt this helpless before... But here's a few other "currie truths" that I just can't do without: One day you wake up and all the pain you've given out gets returned but I'm not sorry now; I've paid for what I've learned and you're gone Tell her something in my heart needs her more than even clowns need the laughter from the crowd... she took away the day dream leaving nothing but daily life she took away almost everything but if you look you'll find evidence she left behind (I suppose that I could take every single line from that song and isolate it and think it's the best thing I've ever heard) It might as well be you who reminds me it was once her here beside me It's hard to say you love someone and it's hard to say you don't... And I have to add this one. It's not Del Amitri, but it's one of my favorite one liners of all time: While you were sleeping, I was listening to the radio and wondering what you're dreaming when it came to mind that I didn't care....(matchbox 20) I'm done...for now Leah - ------Original Message------ What is your favorite line or few from a Dels ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 00:08:11 +0100 From: "Emily Walters" Subject: OV: Re: round-up Look into the mirror, do you recognise someone, Is it who you always hoped you would become when you were young? Oh yes. Very good song. :) I love...."the disappointment of succes hangs from your shoulders like a hand me down dress" Ever feel that way? 'Course you do, that's what makes JC so good. He paints a little picture that just smacks you in the face because it's so obvious and yet you've never really heard it put into words before. cheers, karen (who can't seem to resist this topic) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 22:20:58 -0400 From: Melissa Subject: Re: OV: Re: Re: round-up One of my personal favorite lines is from Life by Mistake: "And haven't we all chased time Like a paper cup Down the streets and up the stairs." I just love the imagery in that line. Although probably every line in This Side of the Morning are my favorites. :-) Melissa - -- Melissa Rabey, dettiot@mailandnews.com http://homes.arealcity.com/newwonderland "All my possessions for a moment of time."
