My comment was not an opinion of the artist as much as the "mismatch" of his attempt at a power song like Watchtower. Few Dylan songs are a mismatch to his nasal delivery of his qusai-melodies. And even those that are, do not approach the mismatch in Neil's attempt at Watchtower. Though I am admittedly a big Dyaln fan, I also have dozens and dozens of cover versions of his stuff by other artists, many of which are quite stunning in their ability to find whole new takes on the songs! Your comments, as I recall, were more pointed towards Dylan the singer, with only a brief acknowledgement of his importance to music, while in essense saying there couldn't possibly be any reason to listen to him, since the loathesome delivery (in your "opinion") would so overpower the material as to make it unlistenable. That is quite a different view than mine, which refers only a "mismatch" in that one case. Just thought I'd make the correction.......now I think I should return to the far more comfortable status of lurker, which is where I belong.......at least in my opinion. :) Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 May 2000 08:21:00 -0500 From: "Phil Denson" Subject: OV: Re: Re: oppositeview-digest V2 #12 No I didn't miss the point... An opinion of artist or song or "mismatch" or anything else for that matter is just an opinion... Originally I was only defending everyone's right to an opinion, regardless if others agree with it or not. So far the only people who have disagreed with me are Dylan fans...I find that ironic... I got tired of hearing how great he was...I don't think so and said it...my opinion. I also stated in my original post that if you don't like any of the people I like feel free to say so...why? Because I don't mind reading about your opinion, even if it isn't the same as mine...regardless of who we are talking about or in what manner we are talking about them...("mismatch") If I wanted everything to be PC and candy coated I'd join the Mr. Rogers List (that is a joke :) I'm tired of this argument and am finished with it...feel free to continue it if you like but posting to a list doesn't do justice to this discussion...nearly everything is misconstrued (from both sides). (No Dels) >I'm sure Ed knows what I'm talking about... Hmmmm. Which exactly are my qualifications for this little love fest? Anyway, since you brought it up: http://www.king-biscuit.com It is still a functioning entity, still airing concerts, and you can now purchase cd's of previous shows, dating back to the bad old '70's. BTW Phil, this show does air in your neighborhood. Now, this show is actually a take-off of a much older radio show that dates back to the golden age of radio in the '40's. The original show, (which btw also still airs), featured "race" records, now known as "blues." You can learn more about this here: http://www.kingbiscuit.com/ See ya in the taper's section.
