Various artists are asked "What Dylan song means the most to you?" Joni's response: I can't really pick just one because I like so many, but the Dylan song that really grabbed me was Positively Fourth Street and the reason for that was the subject matter seemed at the time so unique. What it said to me, not only is this a good song, but it means that we can now sing about any kind of emotion. I don't think there was a song before that that defined the kind of hurt expressed in that song. It widened the scope of possibilities for songwriters. *************************************************** Steve Dulson Costa Mesa CA tinkersown@ca.rr.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Sep 2015 12:53:59 -0400 From: "Pete Christensen" Subject: Re: JMDL Digest V2015 #513 "Hey, anyway that Joni gets celebrated is a good thing!" Bob The categorization of Joni that made me scratch my head was the time I found her in a record store under Easy Listening. As Joni, Joan and Judy were entwined historically, this spotlight makes sense to me. She composed, wrote, produced, arranged, innovated. I love Judy and Joan but they donbt come close to Joni's musical or lyrical genius. I get ornery, too, Sue. Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Joan Baez Celebrated for Fringe Posted by Ralph Meranto * September 11, 2015 Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins and Joan Baez have enjoyed long careers in music as the female faces of folk beginning in the 1960s. Now that I've been to Greenville and biked the Swamp Rabbit Trail, I know just where you are coming from about weeds Bob. ;) No, seriously, it is very true that people miss so much of Joni when limited to looking through the 3J lens. I loved what you said when introducing Laurie at the Bohemian during the fest... Jazzers get Joni. I just got Kimberly Ford's jazz album Songs in the Key of Sea. It is fantastic!!! Refreshing and uplifting!!! Such talent!!! You'll be getting a personal thank you from me Kimberly, but I have to say here on the list THANK YOU for this beautiful album, and it was a great joy to get to know you and hear you sing in the weeds at the Jonifest. You are awesome!!! Love, Laura see all three through the same lens, that is 60's/70's folk singers. I get it. Hey, anyway that Joni gets celebrated is a good thing!
