My rational side wants to say it was sleep deprivation but that was only part of it. It was like being in Heaven- non stop music, everyone singing. The sense of belonging was palpable and, in my life, nearly unprecedented. >Of course, one cannot speak of Abbey Road without recalling the re-creation of it in Paz' back yard THAT night. It was the last missing piece in the puzzle. The lodge is on 12 acres, secluded in a beautiful part of the county - we can raise a ruckus and there will be no neighbors yelling "not so loud". There are a handful of private and semi-private rooms and a couple of "bunk rooms", the place sleeps 24 or so and perhaps we can squeeze a couple more in. If you're a camper, you can camp on the grounds as well. THIS IS WHERE THE PARTY (PARTIES!) WILL BE. A great deck, hot tub, full kitchen and dining, grill, a big great room downstairs for song circles, several other gathering spots too. The Swamp Rabbit bike trail is a stone's throw away, bike rentals are available. Many other outdoors activities very nearby. The Bunk room beds are all XL twins and very comfortable - I gave them a test rest on Friday. They'll run about $30/night per person, That's where I plan to hang my hat as sleeping is typically what I do the least of at a fest. There are still some beds available in the "bunk" rooms and in the Furman Cottage which I have also booked on the same property: http://www.vrbo.com/625099 If you don't want to stay at the Lodge or Cottage for whatever reason, that's cool as there are nearby hotels: Sleep Inn ($67.00/night - 3 miles away from Lodge) https://www.choicehotels.com/south-carolina/travelers-rest/sleep-inn-hotels/ sc031 Hampton Inn ($119.00/night - 1 mile away from Lodge) http://tinyurl.com/lv3grcw There are of course a plethora of other lodging options available. Downtown Greenville is a world-class destination and if you want to stay there (15-20 minutes from Party Central by car) I can help you pick a spot. I'm assuming we'll schedule "brunch-type" meals in the mid-morning so we can get a little of what everyone wants to eat. Should be able to accommodate a variety of tastes. Will also plan on stocking up on alcohol to avoid having to pay bar prices as well. I'm still working on details but here's the tentative schedule, with LOTS of free time available: NOTE: The weather will be warm and there are many many different things to do, dependent on your interest. We can get more into that later. Thursday September 3: First JMDLer's arrive, gather at the Lodge for music, chill and grill. I realize that people will be arriving at different times and that's cool. I'm happy to pick up at GSP Airport and shuttle folks to the site. I'm not sure who all will be driving in and how many vehicles we'll need. Friday September 4: "Country Day" - there are lots of nearby parks, hikes, etc. We'll do a dinner meal at the house and then a house concert featuring JMDLer's and Kimberly Ford performing her Joni Tribute show. Saturday September 5: "City Day" - after a mid-morning brunch, those who wish can check out a variety of the features of Greenville's beautiful downtown. Bohemian cafe (Downtown Greenville) hosts Laurie Antonioli and Band and dinner there as well. Sunday September 5: Have not made any definite plans for Sunday - I know that some folks will be taking off, but the area lends itself for offering us PLENTY to do. Downtown Greenville (15 minutes or so away from the Lodge) offers museums, the renowned Falls Park, many many other options. I have some connections to get some live music to the Lodge as well. LOTS of possibilities! New: I'm thinking about doing a Biltmore House tour on Sunday for those who are interested: http://www.biltmore.com/ I can get discount tickets through Fluor so if there's an interest we can make it work. As you can see it's pretty fantastic. Bob From:B B lcs4bike@yahoo.com To:B B B B "Bob.Muller@fluor.com" , Joni List , Date:B B 07/17/2015 08:30 AM Subject:B B B B B B B SC Fest Hi Bob! Banquet was a consideration (and apropos), also one of several songs to Wordsworth poems i wrote, or another original; but decided to go with a James Taylor medley, Soldiers / You Can Close Your Eyes. Pretty. Dreamy. Listening a lot to Love Has Many Faces box set. Love. It. But while i get that the title does not refer to Romantic Love exclusively (e.g., Lakota is about the Native American travesty -- Joni refers to that in other songs and wrote of her childhood fascination for Indians in Paprika Plains -- and Hana about a hands-on social worker, etc.), i still do not understand her selection of some songs, e.g., (the general offered) No Apologies, about a military gang rape and corporate rape of society (which WOULD have fit into the ballet The Fiddle and the Drum). The Tea Leaf Prophecy is notably missing; Joni won a grammy for it and it is a love story that extends, intact, into old age. (Had she included it, she would probably have chosen the lesser Herbie Hancock cover on which she supplied her ravaged vocals.) Frankly, Joni using Not To Blame is a bit hypocritical; a spitfire, she has also been known to hit people -- this song about a fight between Darryl Hannah and Jackson B! rowne, and referring to the suicide of his wife, is bad blood and a vendetta. She loves him some and hates him mostly, even though she has mused maybe she never really loved anyone. His Fountain of Sorrow and Here Come Those Tears Again -- i have always thought -- are about her, and certainly Naked Ride Home in response to her Long Ride Home must be. She criticizes Dylan in the essay, a familiar theme now; and we'll all be dead before the dust settles and history ranks these two artistic giants, in general and in relation to each other. i think Dylan is and will come out on top, even though i personally prefer the songs of Joni. But Dylan, my God, "there [IS] no comprehending." They'll run about $30/night per person, That's where I plan to hang my hat as sleeping is typically what I do the least of at a fest.
