BitB is her comment on the groupies that her male friends have at their command, the rock'n'roll dream of all the guys; her emulating them would bring heaps of disparaging scorn on her head. (the title track i've thought is about JT); 2) JT's New Tune from One Man Dog ~ clearly about his affair with Joni coming to an end "Love has gone away, leaving behind an empty hole ... it's... something that i'll never tell you about (just gorgeous & lush jazz); 3) JT's cover of friend Kootch's Back on the Street Again (which follows NT on OMD), very country & up-tempo; (by the end of the album JT is singing of Carly's self-consciousness with his crowd in Dance ~ OMD: a masterpiece that did not sell); 4) my composition Cabin Song, my only country or hillbilly diddy: "...Long, long shadows & the sun sinks behind the well, or the horizon slowly risin', it's never easy to tell how i went wanderin' to find One & found myself in this heavenly hell." no doubt influenced by JT. i also cover Joni's Banquet & Rainy Night House, a few others composed on piano, mostly earlier works i guess. Last night, Anita was a little worried that she may be overwhelmed with the emotion of presenting that she would be unable read it properly and threatened to email the paper to me for me to present! I checked my email this morning and thankfully no email from dear Neets. I was safe to go. The first paper was a little incidental in its connection to Joni Mitchell but interesting enough how music of one's childhood places you at certain key moments of one's life. BYT placed the reader exuberantly cycling the meandering path behind his home and the fields which are a type of paradise. Those fields now are divided by a huge motorway cutting through it, paved over. Because of some technical hitches, that's was a false start to Anita's paper but this enabled Anita to focus on the job and not worry about the emotional content. Anita's paper on Joni's music being a Pleasant Distraction or a Life Saver was presented with such care and attention to the subjects that I had broken into little petals of sobs during one of the passages. I hope you are able to publish it Anita. I'm at the hotel addition Malka and Marv to ride with them back to The Symp. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Jul 2015 13:07:18 -0700 From: Scott Price Subject: Joni mention in Rolling Stone The relationship between Joni and RS has been thorny but the latest issue has a feature on "10 Folk Albums...You Never Heard." and a RS review by Gary von Tersch from 1972, for the album "Travelin' Lady" by Rosalie Sorrels opines: "Her lyrics are still the best this side of Joni Mitchell."
