I found it very interesting. I am also a counselor . I work in a mental health center. So I could relate to your use of her songs with clients. As one living in the Midwest, in a rural area, many of my clients listen to country music. Although they will tell be their parents have mentioned Joni in their memories. Very well done. Secondly, I was just delighted to receive so many wonderful messages yesterday. They meant the world to me, to feel all the good vibes. Thank you all so very much. Thirdly, as Jamie said (who read spectacularly well from Malka's book at her extraordinary Q&A last evening), I had some technology issues at the start of my presentation which meant that I didn't do 2 things that I wanted to. They were both public thank yous. One was to Malka Marom and her Marvellous Marv for coming to see me present my paper - blew me so far away I still haven't really landed. Secondly was to Amy Wadge, who so generously gave me time when the song she wrote with Ed Sheeran has stayed in the Top 40 over here for one whole year. She hasn't a moment to herself, but gave me time to interview her about Joni. I'd like to take this space here on JMDL to put that right and publicly and clearly thank them both. There are many, many stories to tell about the Symposium and some fantastic research. There is much careful thought going on in the world about Joni and her music. That's the really good news and the best outcome from the day. Here is a link to my paper. Produced with the assistance of my dear brother Michael, who introduced me to Joni's music in 1968, the paper would not exist without him or JMDL, My paper belongs here with you guys who have been so supportive and especially to those who took part in the research. You were so very generous and open with what you shared. It has been a really moving experience to read all your stories, try to understand and place them in some kind of academic framework. I have done my best. Anyway, the link is: https://www.hightail.com/download/bXBaUXVuTkFveE51a3NUQw Thank you all once again. I hope the link works and Happy July 4th for those celebrating! It sure gave me an even greater respect for Joni. While learning these songs I thought Ibm not sure that I can pull these off but then I read in Malkabs book that Joni found the Mingus compositions really challenging too so it inspired me to persevere. For me our band was the highlight. Imagine standing in the middle of these incredible players listening to their musical interplay. As you heard at the end of the recording I just said wow, wow! I am so glad we have a chance to repeat this show in August. I think it will be even better the next time around. Love to you all and happy 4th!
