Earlier today I heard Bob Marley's Waiting in Vain on the radio, and whenever I hear that song I ALWAYS think of, I think his name was Colin from the UK, his performance of that song. It was really inspired! Today I was running through the list...Song For Sharon - no, Man From Mars - no, Crazy Cries of Love - no, Last Chance Lost - YES! Jazz saxophonist Carolyn Breuer released an album in March of this year with LCL on it. Coincidentally there's a track called "Dear Joni" on it as well. It's an instrumental so there's no proof that it's about Ms. Mitchell but I'd be REAL surprised if it wasn't based on the fact that she recorded such a deep track. http://tinyurl.com/o2bobpx LCL is such a great song anyway. I forever associate it with Bettye Lavette who totally KILLED it at Carnegie Hall. Still waiting for her to record it. I also love when artists do instrumental covers of Joni, as powerful as her words are, the melodies can be equally mesmerizing. And yeah, I'd say, "Dear Joni" is about the one, the only, Ms Mitchell. I can hear Joni-sounding things in it, from the horns typical of the same era when "Last chance lost" came out, to the guitar arpeggios reminiscent of a lot of Joni's earlier work.
