Some of the history about how James ended up signing with Apple records and his experience of and interaction with the Beatles was fascinating. Once again, there was no mention of Carly Simon, the mother of his two oldest children. It's almost as if she never existed or had any significance in his life. According to Carly, in Sheila Weller's book 'Girls Like Us', he visited her when she was in the hospital recovering from a mastectomy and told her if he called her every time he thought about her, he'd be on the phone all the time. Interesting to hear his take on how his romantic relationship with Joni came to an end. A few crackles in his voice here and there but, on the whole, his singing was flawless and soothing as always. Anybody else following 'The Voice'? There's a 16 year old kid named Sawyer Fredericks who sang Neil Young's 'Old Man' last night. Lives on a farm in upstate New York, says he had never been on an airplane before auditioning for 'The Voice'. He plays guitar, has an amazing voice and sings in a very straightforward, honest way. The kid's got something about him and I don't think there's anybody like him out there right now. There's also a guy named Joshua Davis who plays guitar and sings who performed a rendition of Sting's 'Fields of Gold' a couple of weeks ago that brought tears to my eyes. Not your typical 'The Voice' finalists. I had time today to listen to the whole thing. I haven't listened to Howard Stern in about 20 years--he seems to have mellowed out considerably. And James Taylor... as BaBa WaWa would say, he's a "wiving wegend"Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 May 2015 14:09:05 -0400 From: anne@sandstrom.com Subject: Re: James Taylor on Howard Stern I'm listening to the interview now. James is fantastic. OTOH, Howard Stern is an idiot - so far he's gotten so much wrong, it's embarrassing. Can't wait for the Joni part. lots of love, Anne ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 May 2015 00:34:53 +0000 (UTC) From: Jeff Clark Subject: Re: James Taylor/Howard Stern Interview Thanks for posting that Steve. Greenpeace concert and James' beautiful, understated guitar playing on Joni's song "Shine", although he mentions playing with her "a couple of years ago on her album" Boy time flies!
