Would that document be similar to various powers of attorney (for example, here in Ontario, there are powers of attorney for property - continuing or non-continuing; and for personal care)? It makes sense to have one of these in the event something happens to you where you are unable to make decisions: appoint someone now that you trust who, based on your wishes and your best interest, will act for you to ensure your bills are paid, your care is, um, taken care of and so on. My experience tells me (although I am not a lawyer) as the CEO of the largest (at the time ) psychiatric hospital in Pennsylvania that you do not need to go to court if a person is cognizant and alert with sound mind, they can sign/assign a power of attorney, et al to work on their behalf. This leads me to believe Joni is in bad shape (very bad). My heart is so full with sadness as I am an oldie who has watched Joni (live) since her early days in the village then her early Philly work (second fret, philly folk festival, etc,) her jazzy and so forth. If any of you are law heads let me know if you think I am correct.
