A: I loved Joni Mitchell. I never heard her folk records. But I learned [1976's] Hejira and [1977's] Don Juan's Reckless Daughter by heart when I was 15. She was creating her own universe; she wasn't a guest in a man's world. And it was her chord progressions. I liked music that was modal, more chromatic. There is more room for the singer to improvise. - -- Bjork -- (Yes, the punctuation is straight from page 25. It is the issue with John Belushi as a samurai warrior on the cover.) This is probably a case of some of use are a little to familiar with each other and share a common humor regarding the hundreds of threads that have gone here since the beginning if time. I respect everything that Joni has done and that part does not change regardless how I feel about Dancing Clown personally. (I do prefer Cassy and Muller's cover of it from Idylwild). The video I think depicts some truths about her that make it funny because they are truths. It is the differences in how each of us feel about the music and most of all the humor that we share here as a group over the 20 years that I have been a part of it (can it be that long???). I was the first one that said that I would be damned if I was going to buy yet another version of songs that I have copies of in every other format and release. Oppps I bought it for myself for Christmas... I also bought the Geffen box for the extra tunes etc etc. Not defending Bob here or attacking anyone for their feelings. Just a reminder that we are all joined by the love of Joni Mitchell and her art and thankful and blessed for my friendships on this list.. I'm very thankful for all Joni has given us, and I don't care if she never realeases any old recording or outtake or whatever. I'm sure she has her aesthetic reasons and I respect her very much for that. I don't plan on buying 'Love has many faces' either, and I don't feel like I'm betraying her or anything of the sort. But I'm glad she's still active and still loving music.
