The interviewer was a true fan and had some original questions. If I hear her tell that %$&^%$ Mabel Mercer story one more time, I'm going to kick her in the shins. I cringed when she got asked if there was anyone who was carrying her torch but really liked her answer - "If there is I haven't heard them" which at least has her holding on to hope that someone out there may be up to her standard. I thought it was very enlightening and enjoyable. Lots of things I had not hear her talk about which is extremely refreshing. I'm speechless... Joni is so incredibly interesting!!! B She gives words to what is a challenge to express. B She paints a picture of concepts, and I can see. B My heart is full of gratitude. I need some help here... She talks about clothes and mentions a designer who has a clothing line that is B timeless and interchangeable like her music, a Japanese guy. B Who is this guy? I would love to see Joni create clothing. B She is so cool. I love the last question she answers about relationships and exploitation and narcissism and "undervaluing." B And it really isn't the fault of the men but the fault of the men who raised the men who raised the men, etc. B John Lennon's plea always comes to my mind when I think of this topic. B Buying some peace here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5lMxWWK218 Thank you Joni for being yourself and for being a role model for me in so many ways. Hi, Listening to Joni's interesting and revealing interview on KCRW, I couldn't help but wonder why she's never done "Desert Island Discs" on BBC Radio ? Lots of her music has been chosen by other castaways all over the world. She'd be in good company if she did it. Perhaps she's never been invited ? Perhaps we need to lobby the BBC ? If you don't know anything about the programme, here's a link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/find-a-castaway?occupation_group=music Cheers - Joe np Strung Out in Heaven - The Brian Jonestown Massacre - -- - -- Joe Jones ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2015 14:37:04 -0800 From: Dave Blackburn Subject: Re: Two new Mutts videos Jack, these are from the DVD we put out in 2012. I agree with Anita that there has probably been more than 37 of them over the years! As for her knowing of us here and our fests - she always knew from the start through Wally, Les and her friends. At her art exhibit in Hollywood in '99, I handed her a two CD set recording of JMDL'ers performances at Ashara's first Jonifest in '98 and conveyed not only how much she meant to us but how wonderful that she was the impetus for people all over the world to gather and play her music. She immediately started talking and raving about that cookbook we put together for her. She truly loved it. The 2001 fest at Ashara's was memorable in so many ways. I definitely remember the Ganja Line. Was mostly over in the more quiet acoustic music sector that night, laid out on a sofa from the happy exhaustion of partying non-stop, but did rally myself a bit at times to participate ;-) Jamie mentioned something about how she comes across in person vs. in print and most here know of my constantly incessant stance that she is so wonderful in person and nothing at all what she is sometimes portrayed to be in print. If you had the chance to meet her and have a conversation, you would love her even more. I love Malka Marom's book so much because, to me, it comes the closest to revealing the real Joni.
