[jlhommedieu@insight.rr.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 20 Nov 2014 15:28:45 +0000 From: Anita Gabrielle Subject: People's Parties I have just been reading some excerpts from Anjelica Houston's account of her life with Jack Nicholson (forgive me if this is old stuff, but I don't recall it). In this section, she describes parties in New York held by Ara Gallant, who, from the mid seventies to eighties went dancing every night with sought after model, Apollonian van Ravenstein (who Jack called "Apples Only"). Anjelica writes of a party Ara held before she and Jack flew to London to film "The Passenger" in which: "Apollonia had been laughing and crying. It was hard to figure out why. She had balanced a lampshade on her head; tears were pouring down her cheeks." Later, Apollonia turned up in London, telling Anjelica that her and Jack had been in a relationship and that they had slept together the night of the NY party. "Now I understood the reason behind the lampshade hat and the tears. I hadn't understood that she loved him." When Anjelica confronted Jack about it, he said "Oh Toots, it was just a mercy f**k." Anjelica also writes that "Joni Mitchell came (to the party) and wrote a song about it later called People's Parties." Maybe I'll reconsider. As for the new box set, I certainly can empathize with the idea that Joni worked on it for two years. I think at this point, though, I am more inclined to spend my money buying the work of artists who actually need the money. (You know my politics, LOL ...) I think it's great if anyone wants to explore Joni's latest project. It's just not for me. The every year, since we always do the show close to her birthday and it's around election time, I have the strongest urge to bring that song out because it's politically and socially relevant ant kickass and so few people know of it. I'm starting to nail down a keyboard player now for 2015. I will perform it next year come hell or high water!!! Out of curiosity, I checked ebay to see what the current prices are for the Geffen box, in case anyone wants to pick it up. You are too late. It's now unobtainium. $239 USD. Some are selling "new" copies of DED but none that I saw claim that it has the markedly better mastering. It may be new-old stock (NOS). Buyer beware.
