I'm reading Malka's book, and got to the part when they talk about the Midnight Cowboy song Joni wrote.I think it's the first time I hear of it, and I tried looking that song up on youtube but didn't find it.is there a recording of it somewhere? was it even actually recorded? thanks a lot for any information,Carmel. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Nov 2014 15:09:23 +0000 From: "Susan E. I also completely agree with you about Help Me. That was the one Joni song our now defunct band, Lava Rock, would perform and it was a beast. Although our drummer Vanessa, nailed it!! Yeah!! I was especially proud because I was alerted to it by MY SON who was watching the show and texted me about it (Daddy beams with pride!). As for the performance, it was fairly solid. Like you say, NOT an easy song to sing. Some nice moments sandwiched in between sharp and flat notes. The song swerves enough on its own without adding the runs, I found them distracting. And it's not because I'm locked into Joni's version - I've heard over 50 different recordings of the song. Sidebar: It's funny that Joni's BIGGEST hit is not even in the top ten of her most-covered. Again, I think it speaks to the difficulty factor. Sidebar #2: We're about to go over the 1,000 mark of BSN covers. (And there was much rejoicing in all the land). Sidebar #3: This makes the 2nd time we've gotten a Joni song on The Voice, the first being A Case of You last year. I don't know that a Joni tune has EVER been done on American Idol. The Voice is now more popular than American Idol. You can come to your own consequences.
