Subject: Mutts of the Planet perform MINGUS Dear Joni buds, This Saturday, Nov 8th, Mutts of the Planet will perform Jonibs MINGUS album with a line-up featuring several of San Diegobs top jazz artists. Showtime is 8pm and the concert is at Dizzybs. Advance tickets and more info can be found at http://www.robinadler.com/calendar.html As you can imagine, the music is challenging and rewarding to delve into, even for the original band; Peter Erskine wrote in his autobiography "the Mingus compositions are not the easiest songs to wrap one's head around - these are the longest song forms I've ever encountered and I'm still not sure that I was up to the task.b This will be a one-off performance. If you are within reach of San Diego and a Joni fan, well, therebs only one place to be! Thanks to all listers for the enthusiastic support of this Mutts project, now completing its ninth year. Jonibs music continues to reveal new layers of depth the more we play it and it has been gratifying to be able to present it live before audiences now that Joni herself seems well and truly retired. Dave P.S People will finally get where the name Mutts of the Planet came from! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Nov 2014 13:50:01 -0600 From: Jack Merkel Subject: Re: Mutts of the Planet perform MINGUS Wish I could be there howl during The Wolf That Lives In Lindsey!
