He tags you on at the end, never talks to you b while he talks to the dimmest actress. (Lenobs lighting and sound are better, she adds.) Johnny Carson did, too. All the shows basically follow the mold set by Carson: monologue/some original comedy or skit/big star/secondary star/music act Letterman generally walks out after the song and tells the artist how great it was, and seems genuinely enthusiastic. He's done this "wasn't that an old Joni Mitchell song?" gag a few times in the past. For my money, Letterman is still the king of late night. The funniest. He also pokes fun at himself, such as having an intern come on and call him an a**hole and walk off, etc. My own ratings: 1 Letterman 2 Kimmell (love his "unneccesary censorship") 3 Conan 4 Fallon 5 Seth Meyers 6 Craig Ferguson The last two I can barely stand.
