I don't know who wrote it and I don't have time to look it up right now. I think I mentioned I watched At Last last night, followed by Prithee pretty Maiden. I really enjoy having all this stuff available. Then I worked on the guitar arrangement by Sam Stone of Court and Spark on my nylon string. I don't know who sings the definitive version of any particular song, its a matter of debate, isn't it? I almost think Joni's version of At Last surpasses Etta James'. Most people would disagree. It's right up there though, for me. I think any song Billie Holiday sang was the definitive version, Gloria Estafan last year was trying to say that her version of Good Morning Heartache was as good as Billies, and I was like you must be kidding. You should go back to your Miami congo stuff. Joni's version of Summertime is great, partly because of the atmospheric guitar playing that goes with it. My Best to You is a song that if everyone heard at the same time they might calm down. 25% of Americans believe the sun goes around the earth, but if they just listened to Hejira, they would realize the earth goes around the sun. I'm starting to ramble now, so I am going to go on a very long bike ride. Cheers from NE Ohio. It is familiar, so there wouldn't be a lot of confused whispering. I think Both Sides Now is a little too balanced about love and life for such a joyous occasion. Morning Morgantown is another song that sounds like it should be sung to a child, but maybe not your adult child. My dad and I danced to Teach Your Children Well. What about We've only Just Begun?" No, a song by you, and not one you covered, something you wrote. And she said what about "Underneath the Streetlight" Thinking about it, it would be a good choice. Its a celebration of unconditional love, not one of her songs that full of I love you but I have my needs, too, its so confusing, etc etc. Like all Joni songs its specific (to her) taking place in lower Manhattan, but general enough that can relate to. What city, big small town, honeymoon place dosen't have people kicking garbage cans, noisy trucks and planes and all the rest of it? Plus it would some attention to her Wild Things album, an album that has been pretty maligned but she still likes. ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2014 #322 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here:mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
