I don't know what gives you the idea that regular posters are "well spoken and write nicely." There are, indeed, many fine writers. For myself, as a fairly regular poster, recognise that now and then I hit on something that resonates with others, but most of the time I make (often awful) jokes and repeat myself endlessly. Girlfriend, don't belittle yourself :-) I enjoyed reading your thoughts about Joni and the new book. I wanted to address the topic of the event for Wayne Shorter and the cost of a ticket. I work in the field of fundraising. That was an interesting transition for me 16 years ago when I went from being all "I treat every person equally" to having to treat donors as special. I remember talking to myself about how I would need a major attitude adjustment. What I have learned since then is that fundraising is hard work, and that with so many "noble causes" out there each cause needs to use every tool in the fundraising arsenal. Some people don't want anything to do with going to people's parties, while others love to participate in a fundraiser. I like to think of it as giving people an alternative to spending their money in the for-profit world. You can go spend $X to go out for an evening of dinner and music, or you can spend $X+$Y and go to a fundraiser, get fed and entertained, and know that a portion of the money you spent that night goes to a cause you care about. I realize that some folks live on the financial edge and cannot afford to do something like attend a fundraiser. But a great percentage of us can and do give a bit of our money away for causes we care about. And even though rich folks have a lot and one might think they should just fund whatever need is presented to them, the truth is that they get hit up every which way and even they have to be careful about how they fund those causes. I personally think it is great that this event is happening for WS. It sounds like a very special night, and if I could I would s-t-r-e-t-c-h myself to attend. I hope there are enough people who buy tickets to sell it out and raise oodles of money for the WS project. And I am delighted to know that Ashara will be there, thus giving us the inside scoop on the event. My $.02. When I watch these latest clips, I just can't help noticing how Robin inhabits and finds meaning in every single word she sings of Joni's work. The effort and energy to interpret Joni's complex lyrics and the seemingly effortless way she does it I find almost unbelievable. In this version of 'Song for Sharon', I was drawn by the way she slurs the 'long white dress of love', 'I'm a FOOL when love's at stake', 'Love's a repetitious danger' . I can almost feel the the apple of temptation and the diamond snake when Robin sings it. What blows my socks off is that not only did she bring so much to 'Song For Sharon', but then managed to sustain this level or artistry for every single song on 'Hejira' plus encores from other albums without a single break. I really can't believe anyone can do this - but here is the proof. Not only does Robin perform at such a professional level, but then says how 'fantastic' the backing singers are. They are great, but it's Robin who is fantastic. Dave and the Mutts, amazing musicians themselves, must be proud to provide such a wonderful musical vehicle for someone so talented and humble, Anita On 8 September 2014 17:14, Kate Johnson wrote: > On 2014-09-08, at 12:37 AM, Laura O wrote: > Wow!
