Till today, I haven't counted up the concerts nor meetings but here is my list, or at least, what I remember: 1) 17 January 1970 - Festival Hall, London 2)5 May 1972 - Festival Hall London 3) 21 April 1974 - New Victoria Theatre, London 4)24April 1983 - Wembley Arena, London 5)30 April 1983 -Theatre Champs C lysC)es, Paris. This was also the first time I met Joni with Larry Klein outside the Hotel Warwick and chatted cold remedies. 6) 6 December 1985 - Wogan Show in London. Joni sang "Good Friends" and met Larry Klein in the pub and he signed my "Dog Eat Dog" album. 7) 29 December 1985- Rock Master Class. Joni forgot loads of the words and we all helped her out. She signed my DED album and asked where I had seen Larry to sign mine. 8) 4th of August 1994 - Edmonton Folk Festival. Got into the sound check and gave Joni some flowers and was featured with some friends we met in the queue on the front page of the Edmonton Journal. She was totally brilliant. I have never heard any recordings of this gig, but it was sensational. Probably my second favourite concert after the 1970 one. 9) September 22 2012 at Ruby Lake, got the chance to say thanks to Joni for everything. I have only ever met and seen Joni through Steph's efforts! It's a long story. All these concerts seem just moments ago. Perceptions of time can be so odd. I really wish I had seen Joni in the late 90s and The Luminato concert sounded so brilliant, I don't know what happened that I missed so much in the 2000s, but I mustn't grumble. I have been so very, very fortunate to have seen so much of Joni's work over such a lengthy period Anita ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Sep 2014 21:04:11 +0100 From: Jamie Zubairi Home Subject: Re: article: The secret torment of Joni Mitchell (Daily Mail UK) Let's face it, the Daily Mail isn't the best paper in the UK. Yes, that's all true, and perhaps it was silly of me to quibble over the phrase "a girl called Kilauren." It just seemed odd to omit that "a girl" wasn't originally "called" Kilauren. The writer of the Daily Mail article did what seems to be a sloppy job of researching the facts, especially given the error regarding the Grammy Awards, and so I guess I was extra tuned into the omission of Kelly Dale as Joni's name for Kilauren (which is a great name, I agree). If I'd written the article I would probably have written "a girl now called Kilauren." There's no real need to mention Kelly Dale, but adding "now" would have been a bit more accurate. (I can't help it; I'm a stickler for those sorts of editing details.) UPDATE: I just checked again, and never mind any of the preceding. The article has since been edited and now says: "But she was haunted by the memory of her parents, who she thought should never have been together, and gave up the baby, a girl called Kelly who would later be renamed Kilauren, for adoption in 1965." Apparently Caroline Howe (the article's author) caught her error. :-) Back to the Grammy Awards, did Joni ever accept any other Grammy Awards in person, or was TI the only one she accepted in person? Now it says "She never turned up to receive most of her eight Grammys." Not real good grammar but, oh well... I finished the book today. It's excellent. The next best thing to an autobiography. No clues about the "notches" issue though. The Times article is fairly accurate and includes information not in the book. Though it's not a great piece of writing, just an outline, the author did some research. I got my copy at Chapters in Kingston, Ont. There were about ten copies on the shelf. For those who buy the hardcopy, an ebook is available for free. See the last page. Have I completely lost my mind and memory, or did Joni not accept her Grammy for Best Pop Album on stage in early 1996 for Turbulent Indigo? I seem to remember her mentioning her divorce from Klein not once but twice during the same speech (and feeling somewhat embarrassed for her for doing so). I privately speak to her on FB. She thinks of me as one of her "Mom's" friends, but I've told her I'm her friend as well. She's a great photographer, and a great Mom. I think she's a great woman, and glad I got to meet her in person at the tribute to her Mom in Toronto! The article is embarssing however. xo Jimmy I n a message dated 9/1/2014 4:04:55 PM Eastern Daylight Time, jamiezubairi@gmail.com writes: > Let's face it, the Daily Mail isn't the best paper in the UK.
