From the article: "She still views herself as a freak and a rebel. She never turned up to receive any of her eight Grammys. 'Those prizes are not too valuable to me. They don't seem to be a fair measure', she said." Have I completely lost my mind and memory, or did Joni not accept her Grammy for Best Pop Album on stage in early 1996 for Turbulent Indigo? I seem to remember her mentioning her divorce from Klein not once but twice during the same speech (and feeling somewhat embarrassed for her for doing so). If that's the case, it's way out of my price range. Sigh. As I read this article I felt my defences rising. I long ago stopped feeling protective of the artists I admire, and Joni is among those I admire most. However the tone of this article troubles me. Having described a period in which she had lost her daughter, had a poor marriage and some not so great relationships, Joni found herself crying. Joni stated, as only Joni could, that they walked on the moon and she sobbed. The author then states that she offers no further explanation for the condition. The insensitivity and slightly sensational tone of this whole article has put me right off. I'm looking forward to reading this book more than I've looked forward to any Joni related books for years. I'll have to avoid daily fail articles in future ;) Rant over. Since I never got to see her live, I'd make the investment but instead will be honoring her all night at Yoshi's in San Francisco! : ) $1,246 is a lot of money. It's going to be a "Tribute Concert" for Wayne Shorter (one of my idols - most def in the top 10) and these events are not generally super fantastic, musically speaking, even with that incredible line-up. Tickets are still available as I just checked. It'd be worth it in case Joni performs, which, is a possibility.
