Before embarking on the "Songs of Shadow...." project, I bought every book on Joni I could get my hands on. Some are better than others. I went into "Joni overload" as the stories all started to blend together. I think Malka did a really fine job with this. I am savoring it slowly but am really glad it came out. It's a lot of the same stories, of course, but the language coming direct from Joni is what I'm really digging. She has a way of talking and expressing herself that is as interesting as her singing. It feels like it's transcribed probably very close to what Joni said (with the usual edits.) Wishing all of you a nice holiday weekend. Laurie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Aug 2014 15:56:49 -0700 From: Bob Muller Subject: Retro Covers, Volume 114 Running behind the times a bit...but still plenty of weekend time to get this out there. It's Volume 114 from the wayback machine...most of these tracks hail from 2007/8. Neca Falk's BSN cover is in Yugoslavian. You can say that Kenny Werner's track is not really a Joni cover but it sure sounds like Court and Spark to me. Out of 8 Roses Blue covers, a full 25% of them are on this volume. A couple of Dave and Robin tracks, if you haven't picked up their CD/DVD's, you need to. A couple of two-fer's and a couple of loooong tracks, such that only 15 fit on this disc. https://www.yousendit.com/download/ZUcxZ284Nnk5RlpDaDhUQw 1. Lisa Hilton - Ladies Of The Canyon 2. Annot Rhul - Roses Blue 3. London Pro Musica Choir - Big Yellow Taxi 4. London Pro Musica Choir - The Circle Game 5. Neca Falk - z vec plati (Both Sides Now) 6. Franco Morone & Raffaella Luna - A Case Of You 7. Ken Elkinson - Blue 8. Maria Pia De Vito - My Old Man 9. The Anthony Anderson Orchestra & Voices - A Case Of You 10. Saxkartel - Goodbye Pork-Pie Hat 11. Saxkartel - Both Sides Now 12. Robin Adler - Down To You 13. Robin Adler - Shadows And Light 14. Nosfell - Roses Blue 15. Kenny Werner - One For Joni 15 tracks, 15 hits. Enjoy Bob NP: Elbow, "Honey Sun" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Aug 2014 15:57:57 -0700 From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: In Her Own Words The book is waiting for me at the library but, being Labour Day weekend, I can't pick it up until Tuesday. If I likes it a lot, I will buy it, I guess. I think I felt as you do (Joni overload/might be a shitty book/can I afford it?/how badly do I want it? etc) so didn't jump in and buy it right away. Trying to be frugal and all that (personal austerity program - yech!) By the way, I received your CD a week ago - thank you so much! it was autographed too! I love it! ________________________________ From: Laurie Antonioli To: JMDL Sent: Sunday, August 31, 2014 4:04:47 PM Subject: In Her Own Words Wanted to chime in on this book to say I'm really enjoying it.
