I've never met Joni, but if the opportunity presented itself I would do so in a second. The mistake would be to think this person with millions of fans will be excited about meeting someone she's never heard of. I have met a number of famous people who's work I admire (be it artistic or political), and while some have been jerks, most have been very nice. However, when they hear how much you love their work they're not going to say "oh, really, let's discuss it". They're going to say "thank you". They already know you love their work. That's why you are there. I have no idea why Joni did the Ruby Lake thing, but while I couldn't go I loved seeing the great experience some here had. Whatever her reasons for doing it, Joni looked happy, but then, she controlled the event. It was something she wanted to do and she did it. ( Notice she hasn't made a regular thing out of it, though.) Inviting her to a balloon fest or a Joni fest or whatever is different. That's saying come to me to my place on my terms. That's not going to happen. Michael F. I love it that she is this blend of constructive in her engagement with people's questions and yet so critical of this, that and the other. I just wonder why did Joni actually host that event at RubyLake ? What motivated her then? Does anyone know? So it's not all bad. Then again it mostly camouflages whatever it is it camouflages. Michael I agree with you. I wouldn't want to (have met) Joni to flatter her about her music, lyrics, whatever, but because her interviews make her seem exceptional to be with. However to have any of this in a brief encounter is really out of the question. I not for one moment expect Joni to invite a stranger, but this is what I'd require in order not to give her a wide birth. I have sobered up overnight as you can see. Giorgio has been her friend for many years and I believe Joni attended as a special gift to the family as they have been close and supported her in that community. It was a small intimate evening where Joni could relax and enjoy a night with good food and friends, in a comfortable setting. They even brought out a sofa for her to sit and enjoy the film outside in the amphitheater. It may have been a onetime deal but we all hope it happens again. From what I could tell Joni enjoyed herself and was super gracious with everyone. Most everyone was respectful though there were lots of flash photos taken at night that were very distracting for those watching the move and Joni who was relaxing with her San Pellegrino and ciggy. I believe we all got a chance to chat with her and she did sign a few collectibles for some of us. There was a gorgeous group shot taken and memories made for everyone there. Will it happen again....? No one knows for sure. She spoke of her new home being built on her land there so as far as I can tell there are no plans to leave that area. It is my understanding that Ruby Lake is in transition and may have new owners with plans to continue the dream of an Eco-educational retreat with arts and culture at the Rainforest Amphitheatre.
