Giorgio has been her friend for many years and I believe Joni attended as a special gift to the family as they have been close and supported her in that community. It was a small intimate evening where Joni could relax and enjoy a night with good food and friends, in a comfortable setting. They even brought out a sofa for her to sit and enjoy the film outside in the amphitheater. It may have been a onetime deal but we all hope it happens again. From what I could tell Joni enjoyed herself and was super gracious with everyone. Most everyone was respectful though there were lots of flash photos taken at night that were very distracting for those watching the move and Joni who was relaxing with her San Pellegrino and ciggy. I believe we all got a chance to chat with her and she did sign a few collectibles for some of us. There was a gorgeous group shot taken and memories made for everyone there. Will it happen again....? No one knows for sure. She spoke of her new home being built on her land there so as far as I can tell there are no plans to leave that area. It is my understanding that Ruby Lake is in transition and may have new owners with plans to continue the dream of an Eco-educational retreat with arts and culture at the Rainforest Amphitheatre. What better place than where the arbutus rustle? I don't know Joni so I can't say if she would be interested in coming. Giorgio would know though. When we mentioned our talented group to him several years ago, he liked the idea of people meeting there who play and sing Joni's songs. The amphitheater is really cool. We mentioned Dave and Robin to him, and he was interested. It's been a while, and I don't remember all that transpired. I'm sure some of the towns people would come if we did a small concert and opened it up to them. They are beautiful and very dear people. They sound like Joni. Anita and Cassy can you add anything? I'm willing to mention it to Giorgio and introduce you to him if you like. Laura Sent from my iPhone > On Jul 30, 2014, at 11:26 AM, "Susan E. Of course, maybe he's not a literal murderer at all, but someone who hurts and destroys people, physically and/or emotionally, and gets away with it because he's rich. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "kbhla@fastmail.fm" To: joni@smoe.org; beatntrack@att.net Cc: Sent: Tuesday, July 29, 2014 10:32:02 PM Subject: Re: The Wolf that Lives in Lindsey Hi Dave, I really fell in love with this song when I heard Marian's incredible rendition of it at an early Jonifest and it has always intrigued me, too. I don't know who it is but have a real out there idea of whom it might be. Someone who is very well-loved and regarded, so I don't want to speculate. I like to think the lyrics, which could fit him, are full of metaphor. He doesn't really get away with murder in the literal sense, and he is not a real criminal, but rather a very free spirit who, through lots of kismet and serendipity, has always made his way and name through the whole scene. Laurie has hit a home run here. Laurie has taken many of the songs from WAY before the jazz era Joni and made them into beautiful original creations that I am truly impressed with. David Lahm did the same thing with a few early Joni tracks like The Fiddle and The Drum, Blonde in the Bleachers, and Ladies of the Canyon, but doing them instrumental and doing them with vocals is really the key here. Her vocals are amazing and she really hints at the original melody while making her own way and keeps it compelling and very appealing. Stand out tracks for me so far are: Eastern Rain, Barangrill, and Woman of Heart and MInd. The album has been in heavy rotation since I got it last week. Laurie I wish you alot of success and hope to be able to hear you do these songs live sometime. Hopefully someone steps up to the plate and does a JoniFest in the near future.... Come on all you would be festival producers!!!!!
