The first time I saw Joni (in the days when she played two sets without support) I loved the stories she shared as he tuned and retuned and tuned.....the atmosphere she created was so intimate. When I saw her she was doing bigger gigs than the coffee houses, but nonetheless I recall the between song chat as utterly engaging. I shall look forward to any transcriptions you find, Anita > On 1 Aug 2014, at 04:43, Les Irvin wrote: > > Joniphiles - > > Back in the early coffee house days, at least, Joni was quite chatty between songs when she performed. Surely you didn't give up? I am of the belief that Joni would probably be more inclined to attend a pool competition,(if we provided a juke box) than almost anything that involves her listening to others perform her music, (Toronto last year being the fabulous exception). JoniFests are still the best places to be, though. Hanging out and enjoying each other. I am with you,Dave, on this. I wouldn't hold my breath about Joni coming along. She's probably enjoying her dogs, painting, smoking and being with friends and family. How I'd love to be proved wrong and there's never any harm in asking her! There is much wisdom in what you say, but I don't feel that Joni operates towards us fans out of any sense of obligation. I do believe in the moment of meeting her she deeply cares for us. However, the "feeding" you describe is a great image and, I think, a true one. How does a human being maintain their own space and energy when so many have been profoundly and deeply touched by your art? I have a feeling Joni likes to have great fun. Maybe hanging out at Fest might not feel like fun to her - so I am with you on this. Just meeting and being with each other at a Fest is fabulous! I may have been blessed to meet Joni at Ruby Lake (and, yes, thank her) but meeting you, dear Oddmund at Holycombe, was an absolute blessing, too!
