In the middle it seems that she smiled less 13 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg Pat Joni seems very self-contained except when she laughs merrily..."light with darker moods,is she"...and golden. 12 hrs 7 Unlike 7 1 Ingrid Lochrenberg A color analysis...ha! 12 hrs 7 Like Pat Boland I was very familiar with Joni's laugh long before she ran off to startown because she was literally ALWAYS joking and laughing... She was the 'cut-up' in our gang. Whenever I hear her laugh in an interview or on a live performance it makes me want to look around for her. 12 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg I can just imagine...hearing her laugh in an interview makes me burst out laughing at her too. 12 hrs 7 Unlike 7 1 Ingrid Lochrenberg Were her jokes the madeup variety (i suspect not) or spontaneous in-the moment. I struggle to endure madeup ones. 12 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg Meaning prefabricated (as made-up) 12 hrs 7 Like Pat Boland Well, mostly her jokes were flirty, spontaneous comments to the guys she always hung around but for her very necessary 'stage patter' she had a bunch of the pre-fab kind, many of them really corny ones but always with a lot of laughs. Here's one terribly corny joke I must have heard 15 or 20 times... You'll see what I mean: http://youtu.be/z5FBdXiYDPo Joni Mitchell - Blue on Blue & Interview 1967 12 hrs 7 Like 7 1 7 Remove Preview Ingrid Lochrenberg You're lucky you're a man! 12 hrs 7 Like Pat Boland I've always thought so... because? 12 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg Joni flirted with you..... 11 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg But also because men know how to pursue their own enjoyment. 11 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg Smiles 11 hrs 7 Like Pat Boland Joni flirted with EVERYONE! Males that is. Me, I was only 16-17... She was more like a big sister to me... Of course I had my 'hot-for-teacher' crush on her. 10 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg But I would think that would put her in a predicament when the guys responded! What then??? 9 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg I mean, all of them... 9 hrs 7 Like Pat Boland O it was all a joke... and there's a dynamic... Flirting with guys all sitting together, they always joke back competitively. Its all good fun. As you say, 'men know how to pursue their own enjoyment.' 9 hrs 7 Edited 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg I imagine 8 hrs 7 Like Ingrid Lochrenberg Joni says she was a man in all her previous lives......she would navigate her way easily! 8 hrs 7 Like Sue Tierney These stories were devices to give her time to tune her guitar which is amazing to me, because I would find it hard to tell a joke and tune at the same time ... another reason she is so amazing!!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Jul 2014 10:31:36 +0100 From: Anita G Subject: Re: Responding to Anita Hi Ingrid! My post wasn't intended to provoke anxiety. In fact, I intended it to be a joke! It can be very hard when so much in the world (Gaza, Ukraine, Syria etc. etc.) as well as whatever is going on in our own lives seem so difficult. When there is so much anxiety or problems, I like to try and do what the Buddhists recommend. Take each moment one at a time, take some action if I can (send any money I can to humanitarian causes or sometimes I still demonstrate) in order to feel more able to live with myself when so many in the world are suffering, stay in the present and turn to Nature around me for support. Otherwise, things can feel overwhelming. I try and do the best I can and hope it is enough. My email intended to say that, in my teens I might well have gone out to a club called 'The Depression'. Now I am 60, I would much more likely choose to go to a club called 'The Joy'. Have a lovely, worry free day, all my JMDL friends Anita On 28 July 2014 08:26, Ingrid Lochrenberg wrote: > I suppose that in the sixties the title "depression" for a nightclub > reflected > an existential response whereas now it is a warning if things to come. Yeah! Yeah!: The Story of Pop Music from Bill Haley to Beyonce". There is a brief discussion in the positive review of the book about Joni Mitchell: "His own [opinions]are occasionally barbed and refreshingly honest; he even dares to tip a few sacred cows. "The real problem for her," he writes of Joni Mitchell, "was that other people made her songs sound more lovable... {Her music] thought it was a little cleverer than it was, and sabotaged a lot of her charms." I haven't read the book but if you're going to recycle comments made in 1969, then it probably isn't my kind of book. Have a great week. "Soft a Jazz" comes to my mind when I think of Joni's version versus these other's. Joni brought the song into my generation so sure it is different than what came before but none the less incredible. Simon, your post was very informative and had such finesse. Made me think of Bob Muller whose posts are similar in quality. I really appreciate the conversation!
