It's encouraging to know that at least one person got through all four chapters! I know Mr. Hommedieu has read some of it and I'm grateful for his feedback. I hope you noticed your name check for the Corky Siegel interview. The next chapter starts at the 'Miles of Aisles' tour and if I can ever get there will stop with the 'Shadows and Light' tour. Since this is what many think is the most significant period of Joni's career, it is quite a challenge. It is already longer than the first four chapters put together, I think. So I need all the encouragement I can get. Sometimes the information you dig up doesn't always jive with what another source says. I try as much as possible to find interviews with Joni herself or the people who were part of her story. But there are even gray areas between interviews given at different points in time. Anyway, I hope I'm adding something of some value that is unique to the website that people can enjoy and maybe learn something from. I'm learning a lot in the process of writing it. You bring a freshness and your own perspective to it which is nice and also necessary. I know that Wally would be very proud. I actually learned some new stuff from these chapters which was very refreshing indeed. Of course I do enjoy seeing some COVERage of the early artists who brought her work to the forefront early on. Can't wait for the next installments. Well done sir. Also diving in to Laurie's CD...more on that later. GOING TO CALIFORNIA Here's a live performance w/lyrics: From Wikipedia: The song's wistful folk-style sound, with Robert Plant on lead vocals, acoustic guitar by Jimmy Page and mandolin by John Paul Jones, contrasts with the heavy electric-amplified rock on four of the album's other tracks. Page's guitar is in double drop D tuning: DADGBD. The song is about Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell, with whom Plant and Page were both infatuated. In live performances of the song, Plant would often say the name "Joni" after this stanza (which is thought to have referenced Mitchell's 1967 composition "I Had a King"): "To find a queen without a king, They say she plays guitar and cries and sings." Here's another live performance, the one where Robert Plant mentions Joni. - - - - - - SONGS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE Written by: John R. (Johnny) Cash Performed by: The Highwaymen (Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash & Kris Kristofferson) Apears on: Highwayman 2-1990, Super Hits-1999, The Highwayman Collection-2000, et al. You can hear the LP version @ Lyrics and notes of explanation can be read @ The first two verses refer to a gathering that took place at the home of Johnny Cash, on April 30, 1969. Here's how Graham Nash described the evening: In April 1969, Joni and I flew to Nashville for her appearance on The JOHNNY CASH SHOW. The night before the show, Johnny and wife June had a dinner at their house for all of the stars appearing on the bill, including Bob Dylan, who had had a motorcycle accident and hadnt been seen in public for over a year. At one point, Johnny rose, picked up a gold knife, and tapped it on a glass. "Here at the Cash house we have a tradition you sing for your supper, he said in that gravelly growl." "So . . . there are some guitars. Lets go." Nobody moved. I doubt anyone knew who I was. I was Joans boyfriend, along for the ride. So I grabbed a guitar, sat on the stool, and whipped off "Marrakesh Express". I hit the last chord, knew Id killed it, put the guitar back . . . and walked into a lamp. That broke the ice. The geniuses sang one by one. Kris Kristofferson did "Sunday Morning Coming Down", Joni sang "Both Sides Now", and Bob performed "Lay Lady Lay". But the CSN album was about to be released, and I knew how special it was. "You dont know it now, but you just wait." I thought. NOTE: The first "Crosby, Stills & Nash" album was released on May 29, 1969. The next day, May 1, the premier episode of The JOHNNY CASH SHOW was filmed. The guests were Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. andmoreagain, - - - - - - - - - - simonM http://jonimitchell.com/chronology/chronology_v4.0.pdf (UpDated) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2014 13:02:24 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: The New Biography Mark, I enjoyed reading the first 4 installments of the Bio...a challenge I'm sure because there have been so many books, articles, and films on the topic.
