OK, reboot: I'm not talking about the Seeding of Summer Lawns, Hissing Demos or whatever you want to call them. What I heard was the SONG THOSL, full studio version, background vocals, the same jazz guys on the album version, but slightly, and definitely different. It begins with the only cover of "Gift Of The Magi" by Big Yellow Taxi, and also includes one of the two vocal covers of "Just Like This Train". Zarin-Taj's "Both Sides Now" is a stunner, clocking in at almost 9 minutes and featuring some fine piano by John Ebata. The Henry Mancini track is from the soundtrack to the film "Married To It", and features his arrangement. A couple more tracks from Joni tribute CD's, two from JMDL'er Sam Stone and many more round things out. Sorry for the static on the final track...I had been looking for that CD for over a decade and finally found a copy but it was almost unplayable. :-( https://www.yousendit.com/download/ZUcwK3BEVEhmVFpBSXRVag 1. Big Yellow Taxi - The Gift Of The Magi 2. Chanel Lucas - I Don't Know Where I Stand 3. Zarin-Taj - Both Sides Now 4. Tracy Wundrock - That Song About The Midway 5. Anna Ash - You Turn Me On, I'm A Radio 6. Lam Chi My - The Circle Game 7. Lam Chi My - Both Sides Now 8. Leora Cashe - Big Yellow Taxi 9. Rachel de Cock - Songs To Aging Children Come 10. Fay Lovsky - Just Like This Train 11. Marcy Stravers - A Case Of You 12. Lam Pham - Both Sides Now 13. Henry Mancini - The Circle Game (with vocal) 14. Kelly McFarling - Little Green 15. She released 2 quadraphonic albums on vinyl. I wonder if Rhino would release them on dvd-audio with similar separation? So I was listening to the local radio station, and this particular DJ often plays unreleased tracks by various artists. He played an alternative take of THOSL. This was a fully realized studio version, with background vocals and all, very much like the album version, but a different take, and Joni's vocal had a different feel to it, beautiful. I called the guy up to ask where he got it, and he was not really helpful, just saying it was an alternate take (uh, yeah) and that he had had it for years but didn't know where it came from. Do we have this? Anyone? Expiring minds want to know.
