What a shame we won't quite have arrived on the 9th for the opening, but I guess we can make a trip to see it whilst we're in LA. Whilst I'm thinking of our trip to LA, I have just heard that the catalogue for Julien's Auction, which includes Joni's blonde guitar which we are sadly selling partially to help pay for our trip to see our dear Mutts perform 'Hejira', is now available online at: http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions/2014/music-icons/index.html Darren Julien has done us proud, putting a photo of Joni very early on in the catalogue and giving the guitar its own page as he said he would. I'm sure it will be well worth a visit after you arrive. Congratulations on your auction, although it must be bittersweet to part with it. The photo and link is already making the rounds on Facebook this morning! Beautiful shot of Joni and the guitar. Looking forward to seeing you soon! I also liked the first Woodstock ... excellent expressions there and the eastern sounding My Old Man. THANKS BOB!! :-)> You're welcome...the story is pretty cool...a fellow JMDL'er went to the CBC archives and got the tapes for the "Let's Sing Out" shows. These were pretty historic things, including performances from Dave van Ronk, Patrick Sky, The Chapins (featuring Tom & Harry). Joni looked jaw-dropping beautiful in the clips, and the songlist included this early chestnut that we didn't even know existed! The video clip got uploaded to YouTube by someone and Will Taylor stumbled on to it, or Molly Venters (the vocalist). Not sure about those details, all I know is that they included it on their 2007 Joni tribute and played some live shows to support it. Joni never recorded it and released it, so this is the only recording to date. Thanks too for the shoutout to the Dave Liebman jazz take take on Woodstock. I also found it to be of high caliber which is why I kicked off the CD with it. The musical guest performs last, the host comes out and thanks them and then the show is over. Unless, of course, you're Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon is the host. Then you get to be the show. Late night talk shows aren't really 'talk shows' anymore. Of course, the guests have always come on to plug something - a movie, a book, a new TV show or whatever. But now it all seems scripted, especially if the guest is a comedian. The host is the straight man, feeding the guest the set ups for the punch lines. There seems to be very little real conversation anymore. I'm just an old fogey, missing the days of Johnny Carson, I guess. I do remember really enjoying seeing Joni interact with Rosie O'Donnell. The two of them really seemed to enjoy being a little silly together.
