I DID know about the umlaut but have no way to add it from my keyboard and figured that smoe would screw it up anyway. Just three generations ago I had an umlaut above the U in my last name! I recall waaaaaaaaay back when there was a thread about which Tom Waits songs Joni could do and vice versa. Well, not much of a THREAD, really - more of a post I wrote. I'm anxious to hear what this guy comes up with. Lauren Fox recently put out a project that combined Leonard Cohen and Joni. Both Tom and Joni do a good job of painting with words. The tracklist: A Case Of You I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You Fumbling With The Blues River Blue Valentine Tom Traubert's Blues I Had A King Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis Time Talk To Me Both Sides Now Ol' 55 An interesting set to be sure. Check out his jazzy samba-ish arrangement of "Talk To Me" (not one that gets the cover treatment very often if you've been paying attention) and the others if you wish: http://goo.gl/CeXpZs If that link doesn't work, look it up on Amazon - that's where I was listening anyway. It chronicles the music scene (and musicians) primarily the jazz and folk scene of Greenwich Village in the '50s & '60s. Some great stories, anecdotes, and observations. Joni is mentioned in a few places and, from what I've gathered, she was idolized by Van Ronk. Highly recommended!
