I soon realized it's Ben Artzi, who is a familiar singer here in Israel (mainly as being the son of Shlomo Artzi, who is probably the most successful singer in the country). it turns out that he translated the song with his father, and even though the Hebrew lyrics are very loyal to the original, he made it sound really cheesy, to my ears at least...
