Yes, it is my fave Joni song of all and I'm drooling over the handwritten early draft lyrics. If I had the moolah to burn, I'd try to snap it up! Also am so excited about the Paprika Plains transcription - what a great achievement, Dave! Makes me want to go out and buy a decent keyboard just to try it. That is my number two favorite. I was glued to the monitor of my computer trying to decipher every scratched out scribble! I wonder how many more pages like this she worked on before she finally found the right combination of words? I've read that writing poetry is attempting to squeeze as much meaning as possible out of a small number of words. I can feel those ideas churning around in Joni's head and it's so fascinating to me to see her working out, whittling down, changing a word here, moving another word over there until she finds that perfect structure that puts those ideas across and also fits with the melody. What a process! Assuming that the pages are authentic, and they certainly appear to be, it's apparent that all of those incredible lyrics did not come out fully formed or even close to it. I wonder how long it took to shape the lyrics to all of the songs of 'Hejira' into their final form? Thank you, Les! I don't need to 'get to keep the pictures'. Seeing them is enough. But over five hundred quid for it? Is it worth it? I just can't tell - but what a little piece of history.
