It reminds me of my frustration in the 70's when I was learning guitar and couldn't get Joni's songs to sound right. I didn't know what an alternate tuning was until I saw the tabs on JoniMitchell.com in 2002. > Her tunings are each a world of their own, and entering into them gets me high. Guitar had gotten boring until the tabs. So thanks to Sue and Marion, etc. who figured all that out and were generous to post the tabs, making them available "for free." The first Joni song I played in the right tuning was Conversation. I can't adequately express the high that was. > > Love, > Laura ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2014 12:04:43 -0500 (EST) From: Paul Ivice Subject: Your notches liberation dollth I know this has been discussed on this list at length before, but I still think there is missing punctuation in this phrase, and it should be "You're notches, liberation doll," as in you may think you're liberated, doll, but in the free love society that was evolving in that era, Joni was trying to remind women that while they may feel liberated, to most men they were still objectified conquests, or notches in some stud's holster. I believe the album liner notes read Your notches. It could well be a typo that has caused all the controversy. Now that we see daily on Facebook how people use your and youre it would hardly be a stretch. Before I click send I should say that SMOE removes all the apostrophes to anything I post, so I know what I just wrote is going to look wrong! Criticize Joni? Dear Bob, Thanks for explaining. I think I understand salt and pepper discussion better though it wasn't what I expected. Joni Mitchell is about my favorite female singer song writer. I also like Carly Simon, Judy Collins, and Grace Slick. Joni inspires and calms me. Her words gets me thinking. These are a few of my favorite Joni things: Cotton Avenue, Lakota, Dreamland art, Ludwig's Tune and listening to any of her interviews. I love hearing Joni Mitchell talk. About me? Naturalist, Libra, lesbian, artist, player at guitar, live to hike. I lead winter walks so before you ask, no I don't get winters off. I was a science teacher early on then left for outdoors. Park naturalist is perfect still teach now field trip kids about the environment. Lots of preserves here. I need space so the outside is me. In all fairness tell me about you Mr. Bob.
