McNamara" Subject: RE: The Dowie Dens of Yarrow I just finished listening to this fantastic concert. I could go on and on, there are so many great moments. So many great cuts from Hissing of Summer Lawns ... the combo of Coyote with Don Juan's Reckless Daughter ... Plus I love that she still had Love or Money in her set list. Plus this concert was performed on my 18th birthday. Why wasn't I there???? I probably went to see Tull for the 20th time. Thanks so much Richard! This one is definitely a keeper. :-) Sue Susan Tierney McNamara email: sem8@cornell.edu - -----Original Message----- From: owner-joni@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Richard Flynn Sent: Saturday, January 04, 2014 12:48 AM To: 'Richard Flynn'; 'Shari Eaton' Cc: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com; 'joni' Subject: RE: The Dowie Dens of Yarrow You can download the 1976-02-16 Philadelphia Spectrum show here. 1.05 GB http://alturl.com/e2urh - -----Original Message----- From: owner-joni@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Richard Flynn Sent: Friday, January 03, 2014 6:58 PM To: Shari Eaton Cc: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com; joni Subject: Re: The Dowie Dens of Yarrow If you want it, I can upload to Hightail and send a download link to the Spectrum show. It would be in .wav and slightly over 1 gigabyte in size. You also might find the quality of this audience recording somewhat better. YouTube audio is heavily compressed. I have tested my copy and it is not derived from .mp3 If I were to upload it, it would take me a couple of hours, and it would be a large download, which you could burn to 2 CDs. Is it 'to remind him of last Fall'? Some kind of Autumnal reminiscence, perhaps? It's always quite something to pick your way through vocals from different eras and hear how commanding Joni's vocal style is. On the images accompanying the track at that point on YouTube, Joni is playing a blonde guitar. I always knew that the guitar Steph and I bought all those years ago was used on the '83 tour, but recently, Simon kindly sent me some information about the guitar: "Anita's guitar was manufactured in 1978 and therefore available for the 1979 Tour, as well as 1983." Could be the guitar in the picture. All these years later, it is still a wonderful thrill. Our guitar was numbered 2. I have it mainly tuned for 'Coyote'. I'd love to know which songs she used to play on my number 2 blonde. I guess someone out there knows! Anita ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2014 11:44:19 +1000 From: Ange T Subject: Indians who were getting into it like tourists... Happy New Year Listers! I just wanted to let you know that I performed at Woodford Folk Festival (Aussie version of Woodstock) over Christmas/NY - including a very special concert called Ladies of the Canyon. The concert involved six songwriters from all corners of the globe sharing the stage and taking turns at singing their favourite Joni song - as well as a song of their own. I was scheduled to sing 'The Last Time I Saw Richard' towards the end of the concert. I sat patiently, listening to all the beautiful renditions - A Case of You, Little Green, River, This Flight Tonight... and finally it was my turn! It felt like the entire audience was hanging off each lyric. I was in heaven. But as I approached the "I'm gonna blow this damn candle out" part of the song, a group of Hare Krishnas decided to parade past the venue - beating drums and chanting loudly. Can you believe it?! I contemplated stopping the song and launching into a Joni-rant ("there were tourists who were getting into it like Indians and Indians who were getting into it like tourists") but opted for the close-your-eyes-and-keep-singing approach instead. Think I won over a few fans for keeping my shit together despite the passing parade! I wanted to share a review of the concert with you: "Hailed as one of the best concerts of the Woodford Folk Festival, the Ladies of the Canyon featured Leah Flanagan and Ange Takats from Australia, Canadians Rose Cousins, Mo Kenney and Kim Wempe and Scottish songstress Rachel Sermanni. Further strengthening the ties between Woodford, Canada and Scotland, the ladies wowed audiences with their appreciation for Joni Mitchell, sharing Joni's songs and their own, telling stories of their lives through song. There was not an empty seat in the Bazaar, and crowds were five people deep outside the tent listening in and hoping to catch a glimpse of these incredible women." - The Chronicle ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Jan 2014 12:42:19 -0500 From: "Gary Z." Subject: Re: Dowie Dens Hi Anita, Mike and all, It sounds to me like she's saying "to remind him of last call" like last call at the bar and when the lights in the bar get turned up at closing. That's my take. Hope everyone had a great New Year! They're saying 10 to 12 inches of snow and below 0 degree temperature is on its way to the Detroit area and we already have quite a bit of snow from the last storm! Best regards, Gary Z. Tickets go on sale to the general public on 1/17. Looking forward to this one. As a bonus, also going on sale that day - The Milk Carton Kids for May 9. If you don't know anything about them, check them out. I think they are amazing. Learned about them from the Inside Llewyn Davis inspired concert that was recently shown on Showtime - Another Day/Another Time. I highly recommend catching this show if you have a chance - This concert included the following: Joan Baez, Patti Smith, Jack White, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, the Punch Brothers, Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, the Milk Carton Kids, Oscar Isaac, the Avett Bros., Conor Oberst, Secret Sisters, Willie Watson, the Carolina Chocolate Drops' Rhiannon Giddens and more. If you like folk or Americana music, you will love this concert. It's all great, but in my opinion, The Milk Carton Kids stole the show. http://www.oldtownschool.org/concerts/2014/05-04-2014-joni-mitchells-blue-a-c elebration-7pm/ ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2014 #4 ******************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here:mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
