Volume 179 [Bob Muller ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2013 09:58:44 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: Ho Ho Ho and Joni Covers for all! Volume 179 Wow, so here we are, near the end of the year and almost Christmas. Stuck on deciding what to give that problem person on your list? How about the gift that keeps on giving - Joni covers, because they never stop. Plus you get the added bonus of never having to give that person another Christmas present because they will cross you off their list. Or maybe not, because this bunch is pretty darn good. Thanks to rock stars Allan and Paul for their help with this one. This brand new batch (Volume #179) kicks off with the one and ONLY cover of "The Pirate of Penance". I was very glad to see this one because it meant that EVERY song on STAS is officially covered. The acapella group Weiss throws some CRAZY harmonies on The Fiddle and The Drum - man oh man. Several EXCELLENT River covers will get you right in the holiday mood, a soulful BYT and BSN, an 80's-ish "How Do You Stop" from guy you spent One Night In Bangkok" with...this is a disc full of treasures you can dig all year long! Stocking Stuffer: http://goo.gl/CpJK3r Making a list, checking it twice: 1. Joce Mienniel - The Pirate of Penance 2. Hing Fung Yiu - Both Sides Now 3. Hannah Berney - River 4. Volume 179 Yayeee "The Pirate of Penance"!!!!! What a beautiful arrangement! Didn't think anyone would ever cover this song. Such a good find Bob. Loved the great a capella from Weiss' "Fiddle and the Drum" Suzanne Sheridan does another fine set as she did on covers 178. Did she put out a Joni tribute concert? I know she's famous for her commercial jingles, but she must love Joni. Murray Head was my favorite. I always liked "One Night in Bancock", and "Superstar" when he sang in Jesus Christ Superstar, but he rocks on doing "How Do You Stop" Thanks for another Christmas present Bob! Not a bad song in the bunch. Indeed a great stocking stuffer. Happy Holidays to all my Joni friends! Volume 179 She did several concerts and released this CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/suzannesheridanmusic in which she tributes both Joni & Leonard Cohen. Glad you like her, look for some more on Volume 180! Thanks for the feedback, Jimmy - I spun it this morning while I was writing and I agree - there wasn't a track I didn't like. I was lucky enough to get one of those as it is really a collectors item, but the new one promises to be so much better and signed copies available...
