I've asked this before but got no answer and I really want to know:

What's so terrible about Dancing Clown?  I like it. It's cute; it's fun.>

Hi David, I get that plenty of people like the song; the video is 
similarly playful and fun (Joni dancing with her cat). Anita said it most 
succinctly - the melody and the words - the former is mostly non-existent 
and the latter are contrived (pick some horses' names from a racing 
newspaper and come up with a song). The addition of Billy Idol and Tom 
Petty was just another calculated move to bring her back into the 
mainstream by including popular performers of the day as a marketing ploy. 
The production values on ALL of CMIARS are horrendous and overblown and 
particularly on this song. All just my opinion, of course. CMIARS is, to 
my ears, the low point of Joni's career. Represents everything that she 
states to be against.
