And she will never be, although her artistic image and impact will never stop growing. Many of her fans come up with Hejira [1976] as their best album choice. I vote for the Hissing of Summer Lawns [1975], even though I change mind from time to time, as every album [including the live ones] especially up to 1982, is a jem for its own genuinity and quality. For the shake of a remark only [there is no such thing as a favorite JM song for me], for some time now I go for the rentition of Rainy Night House from Miles of Aisles. Joni Mitchell, being discerning, upfront, disengaged and calmly outspoken, has stirred controversy over various statements extracted out of context from interviews, to which she answers that she better be considered arrogant but sincere, than be a fake humble. LONG LIVE JONI MITCHELL! Dear Music DJ A long time Joni Mitchell fan PS. Thanks to Sue and everybody else for the great birthday card. By the way Sue, If you ask me, I adhere to your decision to keep the music box. It makes much more sence. - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Nov 2013 10:48:02 +0000 From: "Susan E. A music box is the type of heirloom that holds special meaning to people, I think because it reminds you of your childhood, and lullabyes your mother would sing you. I just think that having a music box of a song that you wrote when you were young would be so nice, especially at Joni's age because it brings back pleasant memories. I was pretty much compelled to send it for that reason. I couldn't really think of any way to repay her for the joy she has brought to my life through her music. If she throws it in the trash bin (which I don't think she will) so be it. That's what gifts are all about. Giving with no thought of return. I just watched The Universe of Keith Haring. It's a great piece of work in itself, the documentary. It's sincere and incredibly human. They managed to scrub any pretense out of the telling of his story. Very inspiring and sad to see his life end the way it did. On this subject, there's a certain category of artists or thinkers that are as near a total conduit of the muse as they could get. Joni, Jimi, Keith. They sacrificed themselves to their art. Allowed every cell of their being to remain open to receiving and expressing the emotion of their form. Joni rocked and cradled sadness and profound insight. Jimi channeled the electricity of sexuality. Keith splashed and splattered a universality of humanity all over the world, in a complete frenzy. These people aren't xeroxed. They're one of a kind and it's almost like it wasn't even their choosing. You don't just one day decide to become a channel from the all mighty! It's a ridiculous notion. These other artists, commercial, popular artists are great. They're having fun, keeping people entertained. But they're miles away from the purity of someone like 'a Joni Mitchell'. Bless their desire to be like her but I do see it as a fluffy fleece blanket of ignorance over their heads. - - Shari > On Nov 5, 2013, at 10:23 PM, Corey Blake wrote: > > Not really crazy about seeing this topic reopened but I agree the analogy doesn't quite carry over. > > Maybe try the "Blurred Lines" guy or some other equivalent male pop star saying he wants to become a Dylan. > > (Sorry for continuing this.) > > >> On Nov 5, 2013, at 9:42 PM, Dave Blackburn wrote: >> >> He didnt really have to.
